How severe is a severe pain?

I have a rash on my upper thigh that won't go away with a glass pressed on it but I'm wondering if I'm just being a hypochondriac and it's come about for some other reason.

My whole body is also hurting as in joints and neck and stuff BUT I did go to a gym class yesterday which really stretched me. On teh NHS symptom checker they ask are your joints / limbs in 'servere' pain. For me it's more of an ouchy when I move about. This is obviously a really stupid question but I'm just in need of some reassurance that severe pain is when you literally can't move?

If you have a rash which won't go when a glass is pressed on it I would get some medical help. Could be nothing but better safe than sorry

Thanks I'm just always a bit sensitive about it because my best friend died of meningitis aged 18 but sometimes wonder if i'm being over cautious

ring your doctor
forget about nhs symptom checker

EdwiniasRevenge · 09/06/2013 11:22

Pain is irrelevant.

Get a rash of that type checked with or without pain.

malteserzz · 09/06/2013 11:40

Have you rang yet? Hope everything's ok

FasterStronger · 09/06/2013 11:48

severe pain for me is asking dp to knock me out or just suffocate me a bit.

but I think the pain level is a red herring for you. why not phone your gp on Monday and explain you need an urgent appointment?

and if you take a turn for the worse before then, go to A&E. i dont think you should panic but you should make sure you have someone with you in case you suddenly feel worse.

Imnotaslimjim · 09/06/2013 12:15

Is the rash just in one area, and just on one side of your body? Have you considered shingles?

Do go and get it looked at

PinkMangoSays · 09/06/2013 13:56

Thanks for your advice. I rang the gp out of hours and they said go get it checked at the out of hours clinic so I walked down there and just seen them. They have literally just said if it spreads/ you feel more ill call nhs direct and from there on if they deem it necessary they will do whatever needs doing.

Also imnotaslimjim I just clicked the link and the rash looks like but just in one patch on my leg. I will go and read the link a bit more. Thanks for suggesting it

I was just going to suggest shingles as well. That is very painful.

Imnotaslimjim · 09/06/2013 22:46

If its just in one area, its quite likely. Shingles comes up on a nerve, so when the nerve ends, so does the rash. There is treatment available, and as long as you can cover the rash, you're not contagious

I have experienced all types of aches and pains in varying degrees of intensity.
An Ache is a dull pain, cramp can be excruciating causing you to cry out. Other pain, as in child birth, made me scream at the top of my voice, which I would call the severest type of pain.

Stiff muscles are accompanied with exclamations of groans and ows, more painful nerve pains with ouch! < or other expletives and curse words>
Toothache can be excrutiating, but painkillers usually help that in my experience.

Stiff muscles from working out and stretching usually hurt only when using these muscles, not when sitting still

Your rash is the most serious symptom and hope you make an appt with GP today if you are still suferring from your symptoms..

Hello again Digerd... was hoping to find you. (Carol)I had an awful weekend- no chance for higher dosage of medication. Too many nightmares and wake up with a migraine. I am seeing doctor on Saturday. It's either the Tramadol or the Trepilline. Just wondered if you know of these tablets.??? After two months it has given me a total bout of depression.I am also looking for Fanjoforthemammories.
