Scar tissue on eyes. Need eye photos, what do they do?

I have scar tissue on my eyes and gotta be booked in for eye photos so they have something to compare them to at my follow up.

I'm really freaked out by anything to do with eyes in general. Hell, I nearly have panic attacks at opticians and when they dilated my pupils.

Anyone had eye photos taken at hospital? Is it just the same thing they do at opticians. Do they put drops in? ( letter stated they may but isn't that just standard notice?)

Any experiences would be really helpful because I'm starting to panic...

The doctor said colour photos, so I'm guessing retina.

My vision is fine though I am seeing floaters however he said that's normal and isn't concerned.

He thinks scar tissue is from a viral infection or possible trauma (I did scratch my eyes as a child). He wants a follow up in 3 months to check if any changes etc.

It does help. Thank you.

I've always been weird about my eyes. I hate getting anything in them - even water. I panic badly. Been that way since a child.

I'll be having photos taken at hospital. I think it's the not knowing what they're gunna so that panicks me.

The drops only last about 2 hours at most with me so unsure whether to take someone to appointment with me, again.

Thank you the information, it's really helped.

I recently had the doc exam where they numbed my eyes for the pressure test.

I'm at local hospital so they have no special eye department but the staff was really kind. The Dr talked simple terms and explained what was going to happen.

Thank you for your replies, it has calmed me a great deal.

Just an update; had my pupils dilated again today to have my photos taken. It was basically a machine like in the opticians; I had to stare at a really bright light and follow a flashing red light.

Just have to wait for my follow up in August now.

Was it an OCT? I hope the results are good. It's a bit of a wait for you.

MultipleMama · 19/06/2013 23:48

It was a CFP test. They used a non-mydriatic Topcon retinal camera (used google images and the machine matched).

They didn't say anything but took another look at my right eye as some things were visible in my left but not right. I'm sure they would have told me if anything was wrong. Now they have something to compare my results to in August.

They would certainly call you in earlier if they were concerned. If they do send you an appt early do try not to worry though!

Back to update:

I had another appt in August (in Russia - long story) and it went well. I had another appt back in UK at the beginning of Sept...

The eye doctor said it's rare of someone my age (23) to have such extensive scarring on both eyes and with no cause presentable it's a mystery. My scars are inactive and my vision hasn't gotten worse which is good news. The problems they're having is finding out what's caused the scarring the first place.

I was asked every medical question and no answer of mine answered their questions. I was sent for full bloods and an x-ray. I have an appt in December for my results and another check up. The doctor has requested that I continue to see him so he has a better view/opinion on my care. Which is good I guess.

It seems I may have to go every 3 months which I don't mind but I'll have to switch doctors when I move in Jan...

don't suppose you have had chickens or do farming do you? (thinking histoplasmosis - I have no idea where I remember that from!)

I have another eye scan tomorrow. (nothing to do with chickens or farms) what joy.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/11/2013 18:22

please ignore my suggested diagnosis - I watch too much casualty Blush

An update: I had an appointment in February and we were going to review the results of my tests but the computer crashed so we don't know what the "abnormality" in my blood is yet. My vision was the same and they didn't dilate my eyes this time. My scars are still inactive. I'm back again in June (4 months now, instead of 3) and only rearrange for 3 months if I experience blurry vision or the usual concerns.

My eyes do sometimes get blurry but mainly in the morning when I wake up and still tired and have sleep in my eyes, when I'm just tired or when eye boogers move across my eye to the pupil. I blink and it goes or I wash my eyes and it goes.

He says the scarring is confined to only the outter layer of my Peripheral vision. Which is good.

It's funny that you only notice a difference in focus of each eye when you start becoming more aware/anxious of it.

I still have a floater in my left eye - kinda like a round shadow. I rarely notice it unless I focus on it, looking at bright things, bright days and my eyes get all squinty on bright days too.

The thing is I have never been ill as a child except for broken bones and when I got sepsis in my big toe when I was two. I did once empty a potato sack over my head as a child and eye dye showed scratches over my eyeballs.

As an adult I have never been ill other than colds, a few chest/ear infections and hayfever. I've never even had coldsores or STDs. And just prior to my "floater" coming I wasn't ill for over 2 years. I am mind boggled.
