I started with stomach cramps and diarrhoea last Sunday which coincided with the start of my period, so I just assumed it was connected to that.
3 days later the pain had moved to my left side, starts under my belly button and round my back.
I've had uti test and blood tests, all clear but I'm still in pain.
Sorry for the essay but I'm getting desperate as going abroad in two weeks.
I've taken Buscopan which hasn't worked.

Back to gp it sounds like if buscopan not working.

Maybe pepper mint tea as it smooths out muscle contractions throughout whole digestive tract. I hate when drs diagnose IBS. There is no test to prove IBS they use it as an umbrella for all stomach complaints it seems. The question is what causes the IBS and treat the cause not make you rattle with tablets that could possibly cause more unwanted side effects. Buscopan could make the diaorrea worse as it relax and smooths the intestines. Therefore stopping the intestine from doing its job. I know this as husband has had 'IBS' all his life. To find out an actual diagnosis 34 years later. Nothing IBS related this is our 5th opinion from a proffesor in gastroenterology. I guess I'm saying be careful and eat more wheat based products binding agents.

I have a nervous stomach. When I panic, worry, get anxious I get the runs and stomach cramps, recently getting side/back pain with runs but not all time.

I've heard that certain foods cause IBS maybe note what you eat like a diary then take it to GP.

marciaoverstrand · 09/06/2013 09:59

Thanks for replys. The pain is still here but no diarrhoea. I have been drinking peppermint tea which has helped but I've just woken up and pain is back.
I have had bouts of stomach cramps before when stressed but nothing like this.
Its a burning sensation which flares out from the left hand side of my navel.
I have a docs appointment in two weeks but guess I'll have to try and get one sooner.

Hot water bottle too that will help with peppermint tea and try walking around a bit ma help move anything u may have constipation and diarrhoea were there is pain maybe a 'stopper' ( hard lump of faeces) and the rest is try in to push past resulting in pain and constipation up high. Do you have a partner with good hands? Reason I ask is this and it helps my husband, every time he gets pain a give him Mayan abdominal massage. You can find a demonstration on you tube. It works very very well.

pipsqueakz · 09/06/2013 10:14

Also have you tried peppermint capsules ( colpermin)

RoooneyMara · 09/06/2013 10:21

I think you may need a scan to make sure there's nothing physically causing an obstruction etc

No idea what it could be but IBS tends to be more acute, I mean, episodic - not constant.

marciaoverstrand · 09/06/2013 10:32

Got some colpermin yesterday so going to see how they work.
Rooney I think I need a scan but god knows how long that will take take to arrange.
I'm worried now that it might be a ovarian cyst but is the pain too high up for that?
pip yes dh is a gd massager but stomach is quite tender at the mo

marciaoverstrand · 09/06/2013 11:16

I'm self employed so have been unable to work all last week so that's stressing me out as well.

I don't know pet. I've never been unlucky enough to have it. But that was my first thought yes.

They can find out all sorts of things from ultrasound.

pipsqueakz · 09/06/2013 11:41

Oh op I understand your frustration you will get it sorted just get back to gp when you can. Apply heat to it drink plenty of fluids eat little and often

pipsqueakz · 09/06/2013 11:47

Codine and morphine based meds will bung you up. Dh is on lots of meds and has to take laxatives to balance it out. You will be OK have a relaxing bath heat will help.

I've heard from a medical friend that IBS should be diagnosed only when other conditions have all been ruled out. So if it doesn't seem to be a normal upset stomach or is getting worse then would see GP and not be given an IBS diagnosis without any tests. DD was fobbed off with IBS diagnosis for years which turned out to be colitis.

mylovelymonster · 10/06/2013 17:48

Yes yes get checked out thoroughly before accepting a diagnosis. I was sent away with a guestimate of IBS yonks ago when actually I had a significant ovarian cyst situation ongoing, affecting bowel. Endometriosis a possibility? Hope you get it sorted soon x

pipsqueakz · 10/06/2013 17:55

Same with husband 34years believed suspected IBS actually gastroparesis very different diagnosis.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 10/06/2013 18:33

Marcia

If endometriosis is present then blood tests and a uti test will NOT detect it. Its usually diagnosed through a keyhole surgery op called a laparoscopy and it is very much underdiagnosed.

Any symptoms that are cyclical in nature and get worse up to and including menses should be checked out thoroughly to see if endo is present.

Would suggest you keep a daily pain/symptom diary as this may give the gynae clues as to what is happening and why.

You will need to be persistant in order to get answers.
