I have posted in last 2 weeks regarding panic attacks and there increased severity these last 2 weeks. I like to read and find out reasons behind it as I think it will help to heal me . For many years I have suspected I have hypoglycemia, I have been registered with a grp for this in USA,here , but didnt think to look at it the last year or more as I havent had as many problems with it. The weird conection is that i have been dieting on WW for 8 weeks and found this has all happened in this period, is this a coincidence,I wonder???.

My father told a colleague at work what has happened to me the last few weeks and he told my father that he has been diagnosed officialy for this condition, he also said that my attack is the same as he suffered more many years before diagnosis. I have found this article and it all seems to make sense . What is upsetting is how my doctor wants me to go the phsychiatric route and has not bothered to even research or test anything else(except at Barnet A&E were I demanded some). I feel very alone with this and have been suffering VERY badly and the symptoms are exaclty as described on these websites. I even have thoughts of suicide (weirdly not by killing myself, I cant do that, but just disapearing into ether), which I did NOT mention to my pchychiatrist or ANYONE in my family. I feel so frustrated and angry with the traditional medical society , I dont know were to turn to get the relevant tests.

Anyone been to a neurologist???

Melsy - I was sent to a neurologist before prescribed with anxiety based PND. Many of my symptoms were very 'physical' so they wanted to eliminate things like MS (eg. my reflexes weren't responsing.) The neurologist was fantastic and did all sorts of tests but in the end she came to the conclusion that all my symptoms were stress induced.
(none of the tests hurt or anything - all very straigh forward.)

I have been to several neurologists, who diagnosed MS, but as I said the next time I had an episode the same neurologists ran tests and diagnosed Depression.

Why?

I had a visit at home today from a mental health nurse to do an assessmant. He suggested that what I am ging through is just a severe anxiety (flight or fight response)& it is a vicious cycle of emotion affecting thoughts/beliefs affecting physiology affecting behaviour & on it goes. He acknowledged that I have had an awful time of it. Thought it positive that I do self nurture : relaxing baths /oils /massage/breathing & hypotherapy. stated that the Enfield area does not have a CBT specialist, so I am unclear what happens with that now. I might have to call him next week to clear that up. Then said he wasnt going to refer me any further(phsychiatrists etc) because in his opinion I am doing well myself and I should just enjoy my daughter and continue breathing excercise et al.He said, "do you really you need more stress and more specialists help perpetuate your thinking that you are a sick person". He doesnt think I need more help as I can stop attacks happening with breathing and calming, so in his logic he doesnt think there is a medical problem. He thinks I read too much about things(esp on the internet) and therefore think I have these conditions, likening it to medical students thinking they have cancer/lupus etc in there first year of study!!! So there u have it. I will still investigate the hypo issue (may be with a nutritionist), as I cant yet rule that out , but hopefully there is nothing more wrong.

Melsy - sounds like you're doing brilliantly being able to control the panic attacks - I still cant do it no matter how hard I try.
Would definately pursue the CBT - hope you get somewhere.
IMHO (not that you asked for it but anyway...) I think what the nurse says makes sense. All your symptoms sounds so similar to everything Ive ever read about panic (and I think I must have read everything that ever been written by now) and going for more and more tests wont help anything.
HOWEVER - I do think it would be a good idea to follow up with a nutritionist (Im planning too as well) just because blood sugar levels and panic are so linked.
Anyway Good Luck (to both of us)!!

I think the advice that nurse gave you is pretty sound. Interesting too to note that med students go all hypochondriac, I'd no idea about that.

It's a difficult thing trying to balance what are physical and what psychological 'symptoms.' And in a weird way to have something purely physiological wrong can be easier because then you can get a 'treatment', well I mean the treatment is largely up to someone else, whereas the psychological takes a LOT of work and only you can do it.

Don't really know if I'm making much sense. I've been through similar things. I really do feel for you.
