constant, low level infection? cold-y symptoms

I was quite ill about 6 months ago with flu and a chest infection. The first lot of ABs didn't clear it up so I was put onto others which made me so sick the Dr said I could stop taking them after just, say, 3 days. Since then I've been fine-ish but have an almost constant mild cold/cough and catarrh, with green mucous which I blow out of my nose every morning. I have never had these sorts of problems, this is not normal for me.

If I have a night or two of broken sleep then I seem to get mildly ill (cold, sore throat, cough type things). The green mucous is what worries me the most - is it possible I have not fully recovered from my illness or am I just run down and tired (quite possible).

I am not the type to be ill so much, nor to suffer with catarrh and mucous types problems. Should I go back to the doctors or start taking something to help give me a boost. It's affecting how much I enjoy my life, so tired and fed up all the time now.

Could it have been glandular fever? After I had that, the symptoms lingered on for months before I felt right again. I was diagnosed with asthma about a year later, and having the inhaler helped.

Oh, I don't think so as wouldn't that have been more chronic? I think it started as a chest infection, then developed into flu, and due to a lack of rest/sleep (thanks DCs) and working etc I just got more and more ill. I was only actually 'in bed, out of action ill' for about 10 days, though felt weak for weeks afterwards. Does it sound like it?

Oh dear, that sounds horrible - it is awful to be feeling rotten for so long.

I don't have any experience of glandular fever, but it could be a sort of asthma response which the flu and chest infection triggered. DD had this and it just went on and on - in the end it turned out she had asthma on her chest and also an allergic response up her nose and was constantly snotty as you describe. Inhalers and a nasal spray sorted it out in a couple of weeks so I would go back to your gp as they can almost certainly help.

thank you, I will mention it next week as I am going about something else (that will annoy them I expect!)
