insane events over the last year have meant constant stress and worry. when worried I either can't eat or (avoiding tmi) my system gets upset. However, have done my best to eat regularly and keep worry under control. But simply have to put some weight on as I look like crap.

OP

I couldn't put on weight, having lost it after DH died. But eventually I found that eating a whole large TOBLERONE several times a week, in the evening, did the trick. Smile

Supermalt, milkshake, any hot milky drink that you like (e.g. Ovaltine, hot chocolate), avocados, stuff with mayonnaise, cooking with cream, butter, nuts. If you enjoy cooking/cookbooks, have a look at Nigella or Nigel Slater, neither of them stint on the fats!

But also, if it's at least partly an emotional thing, I have found it helpful in the past to have a couple of "set" snacks (e.g. an avocado and bacon, or tuna mayonnaise sandwich) which I know I can digest well and which I eat so often that I don't have to "think about" it. Then try eating them at a set time so it all becomes completely routine. You could do this with e.g. a milkshake too. Just that generally I find if my appetite has disappeared for emotional reasons making eating quite 'automatic' helps to get round that queasy, 'I can't face it' feeling.

In addition to a good breakfast, lunch and dinner suggested upthread, I would add on a elevenses and threeses (flapjack? :) nuts, fruitcake etc) and a glass of wine with evening meal is supposed to increase appetite (or sherry before, but wine is a bit nicer).

(Personally, I think most things can be solved with gin and chocolate, but that is not very balanced.)
