I am going for my first ever hypnotherapy session today and I feel sick with nerves & tension. Has anyone had this at all, I need some reassurance as appointment is at 11:00, my dh is asleep and so is dd and I feel very edgy.

Don't worry - it's lovely and relaxing!

I had 3 sessions before DS2 was born and I was conscious throughout. I was lying on the hypnotherapist's sofa whilst she read out the stuff she'd prepared for me based on a chat we'd had over the phone.

good luck melsy - hope that it can help you to get back on the road to recovery!

melsy · 01/02/2004 10:21

I am scared because of this & worried it may happen again whilst there.

Thank u all for asking. It helps to talk about a new experience.

Well she didnt do any hypnosis this session , as she needed to get from me the reasons why I was there. It was quite an emotional therapy hour (& continued to feel the same all day), as she likened stuff that has happened to me in my life leading to this time as "old programming" like a computor that doesnt function in its best way. Some of my behaviours have come from self protection and that I didnt need to do them anymore , but "old programming" will repeat the behaviour as there must be some pay off. She says the next few sessions will help me to get rid of these and replace with new programmes. Sounds like something from the Matrix come to think of it!!!! She is going to do some light hypnosis next Friday to slowly feel my way into it first as she knows I am worried. Anyway it struck a chord & she was wonderfully caring, positive and affirming.I liked her encouraging, direct and assertive way, combined with complete empathy, especially when I broke down in tears as it felt as if finally after years of traditional pills/doctors/phsycotherapy etc someone was helping me to move forward instead of just TALKING & TALKING with no help to change. She even held my hands at the end and hugged me which was very caring. Curiously her surname is the same as my previous therapist, (who did me no good), what message is the universe giving me there eh !!!!!

OOOPs just freaked myself out for being so open here.

Melsy

I had a course of hypnotherapy some years back and found that the sessions got better and better. I got a lot out of it and used to leave the sessions feeling very warm and content.

I'd be happy to tell you more details in private if you wish although I think you're perhaps better off going with an open mind as I'm sure it is different for everybody.

best regards.

Melsy

I have just read your other thread, I have so much sympathy for you. I suffered panic attacks a few years ago and it got to a stage where I couldnt do my job properly. I went to a hypnotherapist as I seemed to have developed a fear of speaking in public (not good as I was a University lecturer!). Anyway, the hypnotherapy was really helpful and made a huge difference in my ability to carry on. Beforehand I was cynical but desperate enough to try anything, I really have faith in it now and am sure it can help you. Good luck.

SoupDragon · 02/02/2004 09:35

Melsy, that sounds really positive. I hope you don't feel so anxious about the hypnotherapy now.

fio2 · 02/02/2004 09:43

Very interested in this. I posted a while ago that I was considereing this in order to cope when my daughter has to have a (very minor) op. Feel completely paralysed with fear about the general anaesthetic.

Can I just ask those who have used a hypnotherapist where you found yours? Via your GP?

Thanks

kizzie · 02/02/2004 19:46

Melsy - im really glad it went well. A couple of hours after I left the message for you last night I had a massive panic attack - lasted all night. I might be following you to the hypnotherapist soon.

ooops - sorry!

melsy · 02/02/2004 20:09

Sorry if I dont reply sooner to this, I am watching my time on here, as I seem to have some very harmful negative obsessions building up. I need to wean myself down to an Hr a day on here!!(Among other OCD stuff)I have been give homework which is to make a a list of what my desired outcome is for my life, after this therapy , in a few months from now. It is making me think of my strengths & how to work on my weaknesses.

Thank you all for your support. Kizzie I am upset for you, are you ok now ??? I hope you have not been alone today. Tinker she was recommended to me by my sisters friend who is a Hypnotherapist(she isnt allowed to treat people she knows personally, so she gave me her colleagues info). She is however on this site which is an organisation for hypnotherapy here . I am not sure if you get referralls through NHS and it would be a long wait. I just had to go ahead and start before I went a bit doo la la!!!

mckenzie · 02/02/2004 22:15

Tinker,

I tried 2 or 3 different hypnotherapists, all from the list of registered ones, until I found the one who suited me best. I'm sure your GP shoudl be able to recommend one in your area though.

Clarinet60 · 03/02/2004 15:43

Glad it went well, melsy. I've had very positive experiences with hypnotherapy, but I was too late to post you this morning. Nothing to worry about, just very relaxing.
