Frequent Diarrhoea in 2 YO - is it stress or anxiety ?

Wondered if any of you knew of 2 year olds (or there about) who have frequent diarrhoea.
DS goes to nursery twice a week and in November we were called to pickhim up at 3PM because he had already had 8 nappy changes... very loose bowel movement as they say (LBM as we now say at home!) Obviously he wasn't allowed the next day. He had no other symptom beside a red bottom. No fever, no tiredness,...
The next day - needless to say he was fine.
The following week - same scenario but we didn't get to 8 nappies as we were called in even earlier... as I was on maternity leave it wasn't a problem. He wasn't allowed the next day... Anyway the 3rd week.... same story. I had a chat with the nursery manager, we agreed that while he didn't seem ill (no other symptom and very happy child), he was never allowed the next day (policy which I find frustrating but can understand).
In December DS did not go to nursery as we were away, he never once had diarrhoea.
January begins, I go back to work... and whilst the first 2 weeks DS had slightly loose nappies it wasn't an issue but guess what happened this week... we got called in on his first day and told he can't come tomorrow.
At this stage, I can't afford to have an unreliable childcare system because I can't just take days off just like this (especially if this is going to happen often).

The nursery will no longer give him any fruit or fruit juice but I have a sneeking suspicion that this isn't the problem as he can start his LBM at 10 in the morning so before any food has been given.

Is my son having an over sensitive bowel due to anxiety or stress from being left at nursery ? The staff (several different individuals) have assured me that he is very happy. A friend has confirmed that when she went to pick her own son last week she saw our son happily chatting away and hugging her son when he left.

My mum told me last night that when my son went to stay with her last July, the first few hours he had severe diarrhoea but it did pass quickly...

Anyone have any thoughts on this ???

THANKS !

Pupace, this is a subject I know a little bit about,my child has what they call LBM too, and I have been abit worried about it. However, he only has it once or maybe twice a day. His diet is great and he doesn't drink juice so I am abit perplexed too. I asked my health visitor about it and she said its called 'Toddler Runs' and can last the duration of toddlerhood. She also mentioned that it could be his back molars coming through, or that he just generally has LBM and perhaps always will. I did however take him to see the GP recently and she advised for peace of mind to send a sample (fun eh?) off to be checked which I am going to do. My HV also suggested not giving him such healthy cereal in the mornings,(he has weetabix) as that may help. He also drinks alot of milk which could contribute to LBM. Anyway, I would make a list of what he's eating for a while and then see if there are any clues over a period of time as to if there is something in his diet thats contributing. I would also take him to your GP and get a note saying that he just has LBM (if that is the case) that you could give to his nursery, as excluding him for the day after is abit heavy handed if he is otherwise well. Good Luck!

I will make an appointment with my GP... maybe she'd be willing to write a note to the nursery. The nursery is harsh because usually LBM is associated with a virus and they don't want to have other kids sick.
His back molars are on their way as well... so we'll see.
Thanks !
