Our DS2 aged 4 in Summer will be starting school in Sept. He has had a hearin test that indicates glue ear, suggestion of grommets has been made. He is also under going speech therapy.

What has been your experience of waiting time between hearin test, consultant and grommets?

I know it will vary bewteen parts of the country but if you could give an indication of where you are.

We may consider doing it privately even though we have no insurance.

Cheers

My dd had hearimg test in April last year. Saw consultant 8 weeks later. Needed Grommets. Was told a 3 month wait. I decided to be pushy and call them after 2 weeks to see where she was on the list. I was told that there had been a mistake and she wasn't on the list. I went mad and told them that she was due to start school in |September and really needed to have it done asap. They were very good and slotted her in somehow. 6 weeks later she had the op, end July. They are now falling out and she can't hear properly again.

Looked into private fees with no ins £1500 for the op only.

Now have insurance and DS has glue ear. Made the appt this morning for 2 weeks time to see audiolost and consultant on same day, same time.
If Grommets needed it will be a couple of weeks later and insurance company pay in full.

Hope that helps and Good Luck.
Do chase them up on the NHS though.

Ist failed hearing test late Dec, referred to Ent dept and had had appointment beginning of Feb, told needed grommetts at this appointment. Operation date given there and then for 3 weeks later-operation cancelled whilst waiting for anaesthetic due to an emergancy with another child. Another date given for a fortnight later which we had to cancel due to DD getting a chest infection, eventually had them in Beginning of April last year.
