It's driving me nuts!

I had a course of antibiotics a couple of weeks ago and of course I got thrush almost straight away (not had it for years). I've had one dose of diflucan and a pessary, and it moreorless cleared up, and now it's back again.

I'm using canesten cream but teh itching is driving me insane.

Has anyone got any selfhelp tips?

When I was pregnant with DS, I got horrendous thrush and was prescribed a course of 9 pessaries by the doctor (which worked Smile).

AFAIK it is only the oral tablets you can't take when pregnant, pessaries are fine.

frodo, you probably shound avoid tea tree while pregnant. You can however use the probiotic/good bacteria capsules. In fact, they are good for the baby, both while PG and if breastfeeding. I took them (for general health) during both my PG's.

Gloworm · 22/05/2006 13:45

and you can use them alongside whatever tablets/pessery the gp gives you.

useful tip: if anyone is taking antibiotics, make sure you take the good bacteria at a different time of the day, leave a couple of hours in between. if you take them at the same time, the antibiotics will just kill the good bacteria straight away.

Right i'm with you, so pessaries should be fine...thank god for that...she made me feel really shoddy like why would you even consdier doing that type of thing...the shame!
Thanks for the tips girls, i'll let you know what the quack says..Smile

frodofitz · 22/05/2006 17:26

Just thought i would let you know how G.P app went. All fine to use pessaries-don't know why stoopid woman didn't just tell me that! But apparently have to be careful not to enter the cervix--cos i'm gonna do that to myself!
Was prescibed pessaries and DH Cannesten once (tablet) all of 60p cheaper than diflucan...suppose pennies make pounds Smile

Pharmasist confirmed what you girls had said about men fine to use cannisten/diflucan tablet.

Thank you all for your support Smile

My most recent pharmacist said not to use the applicator when using the pessary. I've used them all through pg with DS and with this one so far with no problems though, and no other pharmacist/GP has ever mentioned not using it.

FrayedKnot · 04/06/2006 18:55

I've STILL got it.

Had AF - it went - came back as soon as I finished.

Have had another pessary and another dose of diflucan - nada.

I am so miserable about it.

I guess I need to see the Dr.

Is there anything stronger they can give me, do you think?

Mucho sympathy.

TMI question - did you use tampons? I forgot to add those to my list of things not to do.

It can take a while to shift it for good so maybe you need another course of diflucan.

Do you have any other gynae problems? I had endometriosis and apparently recurrent thrush can be a symptom.

DelGirl · 04/06/2006 19:20

when I saw the thread title I started to sing the 'Queen@ song pmsl

sorry, you have my sympathy

FrayedKnot · 04/06/2006 21:32

That's weird StG I do have endometriosis.

But I haven;t had thrush for years until now and never for so long, or that wouldn;t go away with a single treatment.

I didn;t use tampons btw because I was a bit sore..!

Will book in to see GP tomorrow.
