I have heard that when you have a baby your hair gets thicker and then drops out a bit afterwards but HELP! I am brushing/washing out handfuls every day to the point that I'm wondering when it'll stop. Anyone? DS is 14 weeks

squirmyworm - It is an awful isn't it? I felt the same as you - like it would never stop and I would be bald - even DP commented on it!!

It will slow done - it's something to do with your body getting over the "shock" to it's system. DD is 19mths old now and I still loose what I would consider quite alot of hair eah day - but am not bald in the slightest. Try not to worry and just concentrate on your DS.

thanks DSW - that helps...one of the most irritating things is that it gets everywhere - I'm constantly pulling hairs out of poor squirmlet's mouth as he feeds, finding them on my clothes, unblocking the plughole - it drives me demented. still you're right - small price to pay

I heard that when pregnant your make more hair, and afterwards it's the extra hair that falls out, so you won't actually go bald. It is alarming though I agree.

I believe in this theory, when pregnant I got very hairy!

I blocked the bath with all my fuzz when I had dd. Blamed the man that fitted the bath 'arsehole, knew he was crap' etc and when he came to investigate, a furball was removed from the pipe

Get one of those sieve type things that go over the plughole, it catches the hair so you don't have a flood.

After dd1 so much of my then long red hair fell out that dp enquired whether I had purchased a red setter dog.

It is horrible, isn't it? Didn't seem to happen with dd2, although that may be because I took the precaution of having my hair cropped to my skull just before she was born. The day before, in fact.

It's all coming out in one go, Squirmyworm, and it will slow down. I had a frantic couple of weeks when dd was exactly your ds' age but it has stopped and I am sure yours will too. My hairdresser recommends B Complex vitamins if you are not already taking a supplement...

My GP told me that, if you suddenly start losing hair when the baby is a few months old, as opposed to a few weeks old, then it's more likely to be about nutrition than hormones. She recommended that I take a good multivitamines with minerals supplement, adn within a couple of weeks the hairloss had taile doff to a normal amount. After no2 was born, I started taking multivits etc immediately and didn't have nearly as much hair loss.
