Insomnia!!!

DP has very bad insomnia to the point being awake until about 3.00 in the morning, he's tried various remedies i.e nytol, kalms etc but nothing has helped. He doesn't want to go to the doctor for sleeping pills as he doesn't want to become addicted to them but now is resorting to having a full bottle of wine almost every night in an attempt to help him sleep as alcohol does help. I am getting worried that he is going to become alcoholic Sad

Anyone got any ideas, anyone tried acupuncture, did it work?

TIA

Gosh sleeping pills have got to be better than alcohol.

could he be depressed? Depression causes insomnia (and you dont have to by lying there worrying about something either).

He really ought to go to the GP if it is so bad.b

I go through periods of insomnia - I agree it is awful but alcohol makes it worse. What about cranial osteopathy, or acupuncture as you suggest? sometimes all the tension in the head and brain needs some help being released.

I think he is depressed although he reckons he isn't, he always seems to have the world on his shoulders.....we were a bit short of money a few months ago and he was worried about that but now we are fine and he still doesn't sleep well.

He won't go to the docs though as he sees it as trivial but he looks so drained and pale sometimes and gets very grumpy.

We go away for 2 weeks on Thursday so I am hoping this will be his chance to relax although more alcohol will obviously be consumed. When we get back I am going to sort something out for him with regard to acupuncture.

It is possible to have sleeping pills and not get addicted to them!

DH also gets very bad bouts and he did go through a period of taking sleeping pills regulalry, severla years ago, but now he might take them for a couple of days if it gets bad, just to try & break the cycle.

He also find he sleeps badly if he ever has a nap during the day (which he gets tempted to at weekends because he is shattered from nto ahving slept iyswim).

Also cutting out caffeine has helped him loads.

Acupuncture is great btw.

Do you have to be prescribed them, he reckons the doctor won't give him pills as he went before and they wouldn't give him any when he told them he had trouble sleeping, he just thinks its a waste of time and time he can't afford to have off work. He hates going to the docs.
