Sorry for 2nd new thread in one day but wondered if anyone can help.
I went to see a nutritionist last week to try and avoid taking AD's again.
Shes asked me to try various things inc taking a Biocare Multi vit/min which has very high levels of B vitaims. (didnt realise how high till I went to buy them):
%ECRDA

B5 100mg 1667%
B3 50mg 278%
B1 25mg 1785%
B2 25mg 1563%
B6 25mg 1250%

B12 30ug 3000%

Just wondered if anyone takes B vits this high level? and if any probs. Anyone taking a B complex and fancy doing me a favour and looking at the levels in it? My system is so sensitive at the minute dont want to send myself even more doolally Blush.

do feel free to ignore me until someone who really knows what they're talking about comes along, but....

I would not take those on the grounds that it would be almost impossible to get those kind of levels of vit B with diet alone. Mind you, I am neirotic about this and if I take vitamins, i always choose a 2 a day pack and then just take one a day (or 1 a day ones and take them every other day).

some friends used to take vit b at college because someone said you could trip on very high doses. it didn't work, but then neither did the nutmeg and that really does have hallucinegenic properties.

Marmite has all the B vitamins in it, it is the only food that does. Not sure about side effects of too much though.

I haven't been following your story so I don't know what you have already tried, but some people swear by St. John's Wort, but be careful as it can interfere with other medicines. From my own experience, 30 minutes hard excercise a day was the only thing that worked, it released endorphins. And after a few weeks, it didn't need to be quite as much exercise (in case you are wondering how to fit that in longer term).

Good luck anyway, and sorry I couldn't really help on the original vitamins question.

Only know about the B12.
I tested borderline low for B12. Had lots of symptoms which is why gp recommended the test. After 3weeks taking 150ug supplement the change was amazing. I dread to think how anyone who measures low in B12 feels. The reason the doses are high of B12 is that it is not always easily absorbed so by giving a high dose you at least take up some of it. The rest, as I understand it, passes through. From what I've read high doses of B12 do no harm but low levels cause havoc. Why not ask the nutritionist for a rundown on each of the vits.

\info on depression and low B12}

From the BUPA site:
\link{http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/anaemia_b12.html\B12 deficiency}

Symptoms

People with vitamin B12-deficiency anaemia have symptoms caused by a low level of oxygen in the body. These include:

* breathlessness
* tiredness
* dizziness
* rapid, weak pulse rate
* palpitations – irregular or strong heartbeats
* headaches
* pale skin

As well as the symptoms of anaemia, vitamin B12 deficiency may cause neurological symptoms such as inflammation of the nerves (neuritis) which can affect movement and sensation, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), colour blindness, lightheadedness, confusion, depression, poor concentration and forgetfulness. There may also be loss of appetite, diarrhoea and weight loss.

I take a berocca every now and then and I'm sure the vit B levels are very high in that. I'm not sure about taking them every day though.

hello. new to mumsnet and would really appreciate some advice! Am 29 weeks pregnant with baby no.3 and feel really rough. Thought i was low in iron but turns that i am just borderline (10.6). Midwife has told me that iron tablets are usually given when levels are 10.5 and under. During 2nd pregnancy my levels were much lower so i am inclined to think that i may deficient in vitamin b12 instead as the symptoms are similar. My mum has to have regular shots as she has been lacking for years. It is a hereditary condition apparently. What i need to know is whether b12 levels are checked through routine blood tests in pregnancy or do i need to arrange a separate blood test? hope some of you lovely people can help!! ta

starsong32 - you are better off starting a new thread as this one is old

They will not routinely check B12 levels in pg
Ask your GP or MW to check it for you
