MMR - second booster really necessary? (already had 2 doses!!!)

After opting for separate mumps, measles and rubella vaccinations for our 2 chn years ago we have been fighting against giving them a combined MMR booster. We finally gave in to pressure a month ago. Thankfully, no side effects. However, we had a phone call from our gp today saying that the latest advice from HPA is that they are not counting separate jabs as an appropriate dose and therefore we need to bring them in for a second booster!! Talk about moving the goalposts! We are undecided what to do - can find nothing to back this up on the net and are extremely frustrated. Help ......

that is bullshit highly unusual, unless you give the single vaccine to a child younger than 12 months (for example in high prevalence countries or in an outbreak - the kids would get, for example, measles at 9 months, then MMR at 12 or 15 months and school entry). They might not trust your provider and the sources of their single vaccines (I used the word "dodgy" in another thread and caused a bit of a row, but basically, you would have to be sure that the singles 1. came from a reputable source - they usually do and 2. were adequately stored - which is usually the case in the private practises).

So if your children had the singles from a reputable source starting older than 12 months, they should absolutely count as vaccinated twice. Are you in Wales? Public Health Wales is on Facebook and they do answer questions from parents/the public. You could ask them for the "official" position.

they are expensive though - our travel clinic (i.e. the one I am registered at) takes £80 just for measles...

Thanks everyone. Got they to public health England and they confirmed what drs said. Links to documents follow - have glanced at them but as usual everything is shrouded in medical jargon. Will read properly at weekend. That leaves an awful lot of people with a bit of a dilemma........
