In the East they use ear spoons.
Why don't we have them here?

OP posts:
fuzzywuzzy · 13/05/2006 16:12

because they are utterly gross.

My sil decided to demonstrate to me what the little copper spoon was for....yueeeghhhh.

Why Pruni would you like an ear spoon of your very own???

Blandmum · 13/05/2006 16:39

And also the consistancy of ear wax varies with ethnic group! I kid you not Smile

Presumably caucasian ear wax doesn't lead to the invention of ear spoons Grin

MamaMaiasaura · 13/05/2006 16:40

? what is an ear spoon?

SoupDragon · 13/05/2006 17:13

This isn't another name for weaning spoons I take it?

Blandmum · 13/05/2006 17:14

Only if the dragonettes were weaned onto earwax Grin

fuzzywuzzy · 13/05/2006 17:14

Okaaay no they ar for digging in ones ear...ok? happy? Good, enjoy your teas......

MamaMaiasaura · 13/05/2006 17:15

MamaMaiasaura · 13/05/2006 17:15

This on the racial differences in ear wax

'Scientists have pinpointed a gene which controls production of ear wax.
They hope that the discovery will lead to ways to manipulate the development of the glands which produce the waxy substance.

There are two forms of human ear wax, wet and dry.

Wet ear wax is common in whites and African Americans, dry ear wax is common in Asians and native Americans.

Both types of wax are produced by the ceruminous apocrine glands in the ear.

However, dry ear wax is associated with glands that have not fully developed'

Overrun · 13/05/2006 17:25

but do they work, my three ds's all have loads of ear wax, not nice but a fact!

fuzzywuzzy · 13/05/2006 17:28

Will your children sit still long enough for you to excavate in their ears with a tiny copper spoon thing???

Mb you appear incredibly well versed on earwax.....!!!

Nbg · 13/05/2006 17:31

I use one and I love it Blush

If theres one thing I hate, it's seeing ear wax in someones ear!
[bork]

I got mine in a cheapy vanity set and haven't seen them anywhere else.

Blandmum · 13/05/2006 17:38

Fuzzy, people don't see my as some ear wax fetishist Grin

I heared about it on Radio 4 and being a biology teacher had to follow it up! Grin

Enlivens genetics lessons. I also know far too much than is good for me about the life cycle of the head louse

Pruni · 14/05/2006 08:20

I left MN yesterday thinking "I bet no-one posts on that because really, there's nothing to say, is there?"

And there MB drops in a titbit like that! I wonder what's going to happen with much more marriage between caucasian and asian...will it be a straight mendelian inheritance thing or will there evolve some kind of intermediate-consistency earwax? Grin (Now wondering about pink sweet peas and hoping I've got that right...)

fuzzywuzzy I would like an ear spoon of my own...
But then I like squeezing spots too.
But I am sure gps would shudder in (medical-based) horror

OP posts:
Blandmum · 14/05/2006 09:03

It seems that dry ear wax is recessive.

The gene for Wet ear wax (the caucasian type) is also liked to producing apocrine glands in the armpits, which probably explains why we caucasians are smellier than our Far Eastern cousins! Grin

God I love the internet

Blandmum · 14/05/2006 09:04

I also like squeezing spots btw Blush

fuzzywuzzy · 14/05/2006 12:25

I read somewhere once, long ago, that soft earwax meant you were more likely to suffer from heart disease??? Probably completely wrong.

Pruni next time I go to Dubai or India remind me, I shall bring you back your very own copper ear spoon, with matching copper toothpick.

Hell next time I go to Green Street I'll have a look for you...Dp already thinks I'm mad sending and receiving swaps on the internet to strangers I've never met....

fuzzywuzzy · 14/05/2006 12:27

Mb you could invest in your very own surgical steel spot squeezer, I saw them being sold in Selfridges a few years ago (or was it a black head remover ??) whatever bleurrgghhhhh...

Blandmum · 14/05/2006 13:13

Naw, more fun to give them a good old squeeze Grin

I was telling dd about the ear wax thing as we were changing after a swim this morning, she looked at me and said, 'Mum, don't ever talk about this in public again, normal people aren't interested in this sort of thing'

LOL, success! Who wants to be 'normal'??? Grin

Pruni · 14/05/2006 13:49

Ooooh fuzzywuzzy YES PLEASE!!

MB lol at not being normal. DH sees it as a major failing that I periodically offer to see if he has any back spots. Mind you he likes a good lump of earwax himself and it's not that different.

Grin

GDG · 14/05/2006 13:51

what's wrong with a cotton bud?

Pruni · 14/05/2006 14:00

Pushes gunk in.
Tiny spoon acts like spatula.

OP posts:
GDG · 14/05/2006 14:05

a-ha
yukkky! never heard of the spoon though, never seen one

Greensleeves · 14/05/2006 14:05

the metal spot squeezer thingy is called a "comedone extruder", comedone meaning blackhead.

Grossarama Envy

suzywong · 14/05/2006 14:18

DH has a gorgeous earspoon with a delicately twisted metal handle.
Frightens the life out of me though
