Eye drops for 11 month old

ds is 11 months and has an eye infection. Pharmacist has given me eye drops to be done 4 times a day. The element of surprise meant I successfully got them in his eyes the first couple of times. However this morning he has wised up. I managed to splatter his face with drops as he wriggled and screwed his eyes up before eventually hitting my target. Am I missing any blindingly obvious ways of making this easier? Or is it a matter of accepting that this is for his own good and will have to fight him 4 times a day for the rest of the week?
Thanks for any help.

I had to do this with my 3 yr old. I literally have to hold him down and prise his eyes open and squeeze it in.

I suspect that a 3 yr old can put up a lot more resistance than an 11 month old! Each time I am putting ds's drops in today I shall consider how easy I have it at the mo, and keep my fingers crossed he doesn't get too many eye infections.

I gave up - my dd3 had a couple of very gooey eye infections and i was prescribed these drops (which were more like cream and didn't drop off quickly enough during pin-dowm of child) we had to give up as she became hysterical afetr the second or third attempt to get them in her eyes. I went back to washing her eyes very carefully, wiping from inner corner to outer corner of the eye, with cooled boiled water with a little salt dissolved in it and a friend told me about a herb called Eyebright (got it from my local health food shop) that you make an infusion of and wipe over eyes (different piece of cotton wool for each wipe). You can store the strained eyebright infusion in a sterilised and sealed container for a couple of days she told me but i made a fresh lot each day. Also wash pillow case/sheets/towels that come into contact with child daily and keep separate towels for rest of family to avoid spreading/reinfecting. Have also been told that squirting a little expressed breast milk into the eye helps but couldn't quite bring myself to do this! Although I was prepared to go back to GP if things got worse or didn't clear up, this worked for us on a couple of occasions.

I will bear that in mind in future. However having started a course of eye drops I need to continue to complete the course.
