In the supermarket this am, mother shouting at her dd aged about 5 for wanting crap food when she picked up a revolting looking lollipop at the checkout. On the conveyor belt was every conceivable crap you could imagine (micro chips, nuggets, tins of god only knows what, crisps, cakes, biscuits not a veggie or piece of fruit in sight). Made me feel very sad :(

I agree it is very sad when you see loads of mums shouting at their kids and filling thier trolleys. I do buy 99% beef burgers for my kids, waffles, hoops and alphabites but that is all i will buy, the rest he has from scratch, it does suprise people when he points out all the veg we used to get when he was 2 as he really could name most of them apart from the very nusual ones but he would still have go.

He is a very calm nice little boy. I also dont often gives sweets, will give chocolate but not sweets.

My ds eats yeo valley individual plain yoghurt pots (won't eat flavoured yoghurt any more). All his food is carefully checked for colours, flavourings additives, salt levels etc. Same as my mum did for me and my sister. Of course what was the first thing we did when we left home - eat loads and loads of junk food! Novelty soon wore off and while I'm not as good as I should be still have a reasonably good diet. Lessons learnt at an early age stick with you for life.

Now my ds has eating problems - fine with fruit and veg, but won't eat many carbs or protein. Even tried him on fish fingers out of desperation. they were not appreciated.

Also (sorry long post) only feed cats on cheap prawns and tuna (actually works out about the same price) - found out what was in tinned cat food and realised how bad it was for them - think constant diet of ready meals for people and you'll get the idea. Now the little snobs won't touch tinned cat food in an emergency. Funny innit people and cats once they get used to the proper stuff don't really want to go back.

Feed your kids healthy and it'll set their taste buds up for life.

er, are Herta frankfurters ok?

EmmaKB · 12/05/2006 18:08

I'm a great believer of what they have never had they won't miss. Find it odd that when we go to kids parties etc there is no alternative drinks to the pop and additive filled orange squash. My daughter once asked for water at a party and was told that she couldn't have any. Angry

CountessDracula · 12/05/2006 19:30

yes katie I cook veg and meat for the dog and she gets tuna/pilchards as well. Dog food is the pits
