Hosp apptmnt to discuss possible food allergy/intolerance - what to expect?

Ds (9 months) finally has his appointment to see a paediatrician next week. Our concerns stemmed from his swollen/puffy/red mouth after eating cheese - when we thought back, he was always sick after eating yoghurt (we'd thought that was because he was so greedy!) and he simply refused to drink formula. Since then we've kept him dairy free as advised (although he's addicted to bfing Smile). He's also reacted to baked beans and meringue (that sounds awful - it was only a tiny tiny bit!)
Anyway, sorry, rambling - what is likely to happen next week? Will they just say 'he'll grow out of it?', which is what HV keeps saying, or is something actually likely to happen?
TIA

there is a difference between lactose intollerance and lactose allergy.
Most children do outgrow a lactose intollerance (most children under the age of one have some degree of lactose intollerance)
However an allergy is something different
You have only given a brief description but from what you have wrost, puffy eyes/red mouth I would say this sound like more of an allergy
at a first appt they will take a detailed history. They will probably also do a RATS blood test which looks for markers or allergy inhis blood.
If they feel it nessesary they will refer you to a dietician.
As for the blood test make sure they use cream to numb th skin (it should be used after 6 months)
Also make sure your ds is warm and hydrated. Take plenty of toys and food as destraction. (the cream take 20 mins to work)
My wee chap was referred with a ?lactose allergy (not intollerance) thankfully it turned ou that his problem had been caused by a virus but its very worrying.

Many thanks, chapsmum - I really hadn't a clue what to expect.
Sounds like my next issue will be trying to stop dh hitting the floor if they take a blood sample from ds (can't stand seeing blood in tubes etc - open wounds no problem, bizarrely)!

Thanks again.
