I have just got back form the dr with my ds(2;8

ds had a 'streak 'of pale red spots from his eye to his cheek...that i didnt think anything of because he often gets little spots that come and go.
however these spots stayed a day or so and have now gone a bit pus-y....so i took him to the dr.

also i can see more ,now that i look and they look like tiny pale blisters..
now they are on both cheeks, crusty, with more emerging.
when i gave him his antibiotics, that the dr has just prescribed..i thought to look in his mouth and bingo two little blisters!

he also has a streaming cold and has without doubt been particularly miserable for three days!

no noticable temperature (havent taken it)

(i have had a cold sore attack that manifested indide my mouth as about 40 little blisters with one or two on my lip and cheek...)

i was wondering if anyone recognised these symptoms in a child.

the dr was UNBELIEVABLY brief...and said it was eczema, which had become infected, which i contested

any thoughts gratefully received.you know i just wanted to give this an airing on mumsnet .i will of course be revisiting the dr in th e morning .....armed with m/net wisdom

ds1 had eczema herpeticum- eczema infected with the herpes virus. I was initially dxed as infected eczema (which it was as well it got such a mess). It spread very rapidly, from one or two spots to covering his entire body except his feet in about 12 hours. Eczema herpeticum blisters are surrounded by a kind of pit, which is how the dermatologist we saw (as an emergency- my GP got us an NHS next day appointment) recognised it immediately. Google for images of eczema herpeticum. If you think it is you need to see someone asap- it can be very serious- if you end up seeing a generalist say "could this be eczema herpeticum, if not, why not" most are not familiar with it.

Lovely job jimjams!
sorry to hear about your lttle one having that.ouch.

im not sure about it being eczema herpeticum..some images look v.similar...others look much more severe(thinks back to her med school training...oh didnt go)..but it does fit with his and my history, his terrible grizzling, the nature of th espots blah blah...but the spots were slower developing and do appear to have responded to the antibiotics(secondary inf?)

i'll take him this afternoon i think..see what he does during the day.

thanks for your post. with your intensive interaction handbook and herpes/eczema gem you are now a local hero [well meaning sychophant emoticon]
