DS has a grumbling appendix and has had it for a week. Is this normal? Does it need a second opinion.

I would get it seen to again.

I eventualyl had to have mine removed at 17 weeks pg, and would have much preffered to have had it done before I was pg! (suspected prior to being pg)

Mine went on for bloody years off & on. Finally had them removed when I was 29.

How do you know if you've got it? Dd's been complaining of a low tummy pain for a while and I've wondered ...

It doesn't always need treatent. Mine grumbled for years on and off as a child and I still have it in place and it's fine Smile

OTOH a friend of mine was taken to hospital with appendicitis a couple of times over 10days or so, but each tiem it settled down within a few hours of arriving. The doctors called it 'grumbling' and gave her parents the choice whether to operate or not. They chose not to as it seemed to be an unnecessary op. It burst 5 days later and she was ambulanced to hospital with peritonitis.

Sorry, but it's important to know both sides.

but I mean what does it do when it 'grumbles'? A little voice saying 'lemme out' or what? Smile

As a child I was told I had a grumbling appendix, but was later told they don't grumble, Its a full on shout on nothing.

Looking back it seems fairly obvious that it was probably IBS and nothing to do with my appendix, especially as I never ate any form of fruit or veg.

i had a pain as a child that GPs couldn't make up their minds about but said it was either grumbling app. or growing pains! It did eventually proceed to full blown appendicitis and I definitely knew that it had got a lot worse as the pain was much much worse and I was mega-sick. At that point they whipped it out pretty smartish and then decided it probably hadn't been grumbling as the pain seemed to be in a different place. But then the pain never came back so I'm convinved it had grumbled away. It took a good year to get to operating level though. I would definitely ask for a referral as it's going to make things like planning holidays hard if you don't know whether it's likely to lead to anything.
