has anyone any experience of st johns wort? i am hoping to start on it next week

Be careful in the sun it makes your skin very sensitive. I think prescription anti ds better personally.

thanks for reply. i have tried prescription anit d's and they didnt agree with me at all. made me alot worse in fact. i think my depression is very mild. have you tried the st. john wort yourself? i would love something to give me a bit of a lift

Not me, my husband did and he found it ok ish, but made him burn in the sun very easily (despite having dark skin). I find the sun to be a great mood lifter so wouldn't want to take it. I hope you are ok on it :)

I have taken it for a couple of years now and find it quite effective. You need a good quality product at the correct dose. 900mg a day is the starting dose despite what the packets say in this country.
I have never found it effected my skin in the sun but worth avoiding it any way.
It does interact with other drugs so be aware of that.

I've been on the Tesco one since xmas and found it excellent. I stopped taking it when it ran out and found I was back to my stroppy snappy self so resumed taking out and found I was much calmer and happier. Haven't tested it in the sun as its been winter since I've been on it may stop taking it during summer hol if that's the case though

I had casules of liquid in Germany and found them effective.
In UK the tablets didn't work for me.

sannaville Has Tesco got just the one type?

In my tescos they only have the one type in a green box they are in tablet form think 60 in a box

I've taken it and found it did make a difference. Beware that if on contraceptive pill it can interfere with it's effectiveness and I think I read somewhere that people on warfarin shouldn't take it, hope it works for you

I've used it in the past and found it good. You do need to read the list of drugs it reacts badly with - some are serious contraindications. I've also discussed it with GPs and they were v supportive. I found it helped PMS very well, and helped me sleep and relax. Eventually I needed conventional ADs but it worked for a good while. Also i needed to use sun screen, even in Scotland - without it I did burn esp over my cheeks and forearms. i am quite fair.
