Worried about DH's memory

DH is 44. He's always been a bit forgetful, but nothing concerning. For about a year now, it seems to have been getting worse. He forgets what he's told me previously and repeats constantly. He forgets meetings, appointments. He even forgot to pas on an important message to me which resulted in DD not being collected from school.
He's also constantly tired.

He won't talk about this, and says he's fine. He refuses to go to the doctor. I don't know whether I should be worried or not.

My first thought is stress or depression? Any chance of that? Both affect energy and memory quite profoundly for a lot of sufferers.

He does have a very stressful job, so very possibly.
He'd be even more vehement that he didn't go to the docs if I suggested stress - he'd see it as a weakness.

I'd suggest thyroid tests. Although less common in men (so not always tested for) a slow thyroid causes tiredness and memory problems amongst other symptoms

That's just my personal experience, but it might get him to the GP for a few blood tests?

Could you get him to the gp by focussing on the tiredness?

YellowandGreenandRedandBlue · 01/04/2013 22:21

If he would see stress as a weakness, that makes him more at risk of stress iyswim, because that attitude forces people to carry on.

Yes, focusing on the tiredness, talk about vitamin deficiency or thyroid and he could get some tests. There are so many things hat can cause these symptoms.

The GP should consider stress/depression anyway.

It's very unlikely to be Alzheimer's, if that is concerning you or him. Blood tests at the GP are a good first step. If those don't get to the root of it I can pm you contact details for a national specialist working-age adult memory disorders service.

Alzheimers is unlikely if this is what may be concerning you.

put very simply/basically, if you can't remember where you parked your car, you're fine. If you can't remember the colour of your car, it needs further investigation. He sounds like he is suffering from stress. Could this be likely?
