DD to wear glasses- Please advise

DD is 4.5 and has Down Syndrome. We have just been advised that she needs glasses and today we have been to the optician who put drops into her eyes and made up a prescription.

On looking at the "range" of glasses, they only had 1 style they thought suitable for her!!Shock
These were in a blue which neither DH or myself really liked. They did advise the glasses will cost us £20 but they do come in another colour but they couldn't tell us what that colour was!!!

Can anyone give me some feedback on this please.

Also I would like to know about repairs too!! I can't imagine how these are going to remain intact. Will I have to continually paying for them to be repaired?

Please advise!!! Thanks.

DS has worn glasses since last Sept. We got 'Harry Potter' type thin black framed ones (they also come in electric blue which is wierd)from Boots. You probably know the ones. They look quite cool actually, everyone really likes them, not geeky at all. There was not many choices for someone with such a little face (he is about 2yrs old on growth charts)

We got NHS ones and broke the arms about 4 times so far (mostly in the first month) For free. We could have paid for plastic lenses but didnt. It was free new ones too each time they broke (could never repair them!).

His prescript has also changed. When we last saw the Dr she prescribed a spare pair so he had 2 identical, free pairs. All in all brilliant service from the NHS, I thought.

Hi! My daughter has worn glasses since she was 2.5yrs and is now 3yrs. Our opticians have been brilliant at repairing her glasses etc. despite me sometimes coming in up to 4 times a week. We noticed our daughter was looking over her glasses and not through them and spoke to her doctor at the hospital who has given her a pair of glasses that tie all the way round her head and are big white frames. They are a nightmare as the elastic is sometimes too tight or too loose and she hates them and is always taking them off. I am fine with the hassle of this but I get stopped sometimes whilst out with her and get asked if she really needs to wear them. When I say 'yes' they just say 'Oh sorry' and I have to say I find it quite upsetting. Luckily my daughter has not heard/understood it but imagine if she did and how she would feel?

mummytotally, I bought an elastic strap thing you attach to normal glasses to keep dd's glasses on her nose and to prevent her looking over them. It cost a few pounds from the optician (not the one I got the glasses from - it was Black and Lizars.) I think they are called sport straps. She is not fussed about wearing it or the glasses.

Thanks for that. I have looked them up on the Internet but have not been able to find it & there are no local Black & Lizars. The problem with Taly is that it is not that the glasses fall down her nose or anything but that she positions her head so that she can look above the lenses. Does this thing you got your daughter help prevent that? If so will call them up and order one over the phone. Thanks for the advice

I have found some on ebay - dd's one is like the thin black one 2nd from the bottom. She has Beano glasses which has quite a round frame (the roundest we could find really) and the sports band thing keeps them well up on the bridge of her nose so she finds it hard to peer over the top of them.
