Any ideas about chilblains on my fingers?

Hi. I have occasionally, when I was a child, had chilblains on my toes.

Now, however, I have terrible chilblains on my fingers. They are hot, swollen and itchy. It hurts to bends my fingers. GP confirmed chilblains.

I have never had chilblainson my fingers before. Maybe it is my great age (50!) or the amount of stress I am experiencing - don't know why I should suddenly get them this year.

Any ideas to help?

I have Raynauds and suffer badly with chilblains, I am on medication that really helps but other than that the best things are trying to keep as much of your arms/hands protected from the cold as possible.
I wear long sleeves all the time, I wear wrist warmers too, I think these make a big difference. I wear gloves when I go out almost always, I have lots of pairs so I can choose the best ones for activity /outfit. I use oven gloves in the kitchen when getting the milk out of the fridge or having to carry a bag of frozen peas etc.

I noticed my dominant hand suffers the most so I try to protect it by using my weaker hand more to spread the pain (!) making it more manageable.
I use a really thick hand cream frequently through the day, paying particular attention to massage the chilblains, otherwise they dry, crack and bleed once they are past the hot, swollen stage. If they crack and bleed I put sudocrem and a plaster (elastoplast seems best) on until they start to heal.

Hope things improve for you, they are awful.

Hi I've got ine on my toe, first since I was a teen.
Itch like hell don't they ! I find heat agitates it it, went in the bath and the hot water set it off, so try keep your hands cool as much as you can, the blister gas now shrivelled and getting better, they can just go away in their own.
The freezing conditions and coming into the warm can cause them.

Yes I came on to recommend snow fire. My mother used to get it for my chilblains when I was little. It does work.

Thank you. I love the name! I will try it.

I am surprised that I never had them before in my life - could it be stress related?

Every winter I would get annoying chillblain....until by luck I found out that if I stop consuming dairy and gluten products I would not get the chillblains during that winter....no matter how cold it was;) Don't ask me why it works....I just know that it does for me! Maybe give it a shot and have a chillblain-free winter!!!!
