I restarted my periods in September after being preg and/or breastfeeding for years. Each period got heavier and more painful so I went to GP who gave me transexamic acid. These have helped reduce the flooding but I have now noticed my period taking days to get going. Last month I started pinky discharge on the Thursday but actual bleeding on the Monday (so started the TA on the Monday), this month, I started slight loss on Monday, and have onky started bleeding today (well, flooded overnight despite Mooncup) so have started TA today.

Any ideas why the run-up is so protracted? I'm probably in for another week or so of heavy loss now, so it's turning into 2 week periods. I'm guessing it's hormonal. Is it worth going back to GP?

I started on transexamic acid a couple of months ago and I also found that although that made the bleeding lighter my period lasted about 12 days rather than simply flooding for 5/6 days . For me I'd rather have the latter ,but I can't because my Ferritin is only 3 and I can't tolerate iron so it really needs dealing with . My GP has suggested I go back on the pill instead which I have started this month . I'd definitely go back to the GP and get them to think again .

Thanks Floral. Sorry you're having problems too. I don't start the TA until proper bleeding starts, so I dont think it can explain the first week of pinky, about-to-come-on stuff, or can it?

Maybe I should go back on the pill, I just feel like I don't want more hormones after years of pg etc.

No you're right if you haven't started taking it it won't explain it so even more reason to go back . I don't really mind going back on the pill as I always found it very convenient in my youth and really the choice was pill or Mirena coil and I can't say I was that keen on going down that line . Really I'd like a hysterectomy but I am getting on a bit so hopefully the menopause will strike soon .
