Does anyone know what this might be?

I've got a blister-like spot that keeps recurring every two weeks or so. It is just inside my mouth, near the edge where my lip meets the moist part, but is actually on the moist part iyswim. It has a tiny dot of black at the centre of it and it itches like nothing on earth. I actually keep scratching at it with my teeth and every so often it bursts and releases a thick, clear liquid Blush - sorry if tmi.

Anyone got any ideas? Saw dentist a couple of months ago and it wasn't as bad - apparently he couldn't see anything....

Sounds like a canker sore here not dangerous, but not nice either. Bonjela might help.

Thanks Ellie - it doesn't actually have any white/yellow around it - it literally looks like a blister and doesn't stand out colour-wise (apart from the little black bit). I'd not thought of bonjela - I'll give that a go - it's driving me nuts

It could be a mucocele/mucus retention cyst.

It's a minor salivary gland that the out tube (duct) gets damaged and the saliva builds up inside. A lot of them recur until they get removed; I like to put a suture through them because sometimes that makes the duct regrow (sometimes).

MrsM that's EXACTLY what it's like - thank you!

What do I do about it? I don't know if I particularly want to get it removed (I'm a wimp) - but similarly it's really beginning to piss me off. Any advice? Is the suturing worth trying? (And how do you suture it? I'm curious!)

Well I just put some freeze in and literally put a stitch right through it. Sometimes this will make it's own duct but if not it usually gives some relief. Tbh it can be sore when they are removed but I don't think it's too bad. Certainly people come back in pain after wisdom teeth out but not after this, only for suture removal.

Discuss it with your dentist!
