Dear All

My DS is now 7 months old and I still can't fit into my old clothes. I try to go walking every day with DS but that is the extent of my exercise regime and obviously this is not enough! But looking after DS takes up most of my time and when DH comes home the last thing I feel like doing is trekking off to the gym. We don't see much of each other or get to spend much time as a family as it is! And I will be starting back at work soon. I used to do a fitness dvd at home occasionally but as DS is now mobile and not really sleeping much during the day, I can't even fit this in!

I know I have to try and get into a routine .... DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE ON INDEPENDENT EXERCISE/S THAT A BUSY MUM CAN FIT INTO HER SCHEDULE? I DESPERATELY NEED SOMETHING THAT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance

Ok I'll tell you what i've started doing but don't laugh. Every morning after i've fed dd (3 years) and ds (51/2 months) I put on one of the music channels and dance and also do some exercises like tummy ones etc. I usually warm up with indie hifi that is on VH1 (I love indie music) then really get into the swing of it with MTV Base. I recommend doing it to music you love because it's actually enjoyable much more fun than an exercise dvd. I normally do it for 40 mins to an hour and dd joins in whilst ds watches laughing so it's fun for all the family (I do close the blinds thought lol). I have found not only is it working in making me feel more toned and fitting cardiovascular exercise into my daily routine but it makes me feel in a brill mood to as the adreneline really starts pumping and it feels like i've had a good night out without the hangover LOL. I found walking fast with the pram was brill with my dd but that doesn't work for me know as I have jack in the pram and Eve walking next to me at a not fast enough pace.

Also you can incorporate your ds into the routine he'll love it I promise!

Thanks LDH! But where do you find your exercises? Have you got a set that you do regularly?

HEy baby I find catherine Zeta Jones rule of nine months on nine months off to be quite accurate, it was amazing the difference between 7 and nine monts.
Also are you still b feeding, I found I lost a good half a stone after I stopped b feeding.

Don't be too harsh on yourself. Bear in mind that you may have changed shape a bit since having your baby. My hips never quite went back to how they were ! Would you be able to fit something in first thing - while your dh can mind ds and give him breakfast - even if it just a 15 minute set of toning exercises.

Also I bought Davinas 3x30 min work outs and make my self do each work out at least once a week.
There are 20% of DVD at tesco on line or you might get it cheaper on e bay.

I go to my local leisure centre twice a week. They have a creche there and so I put DD and DS in there for an hour each time, so I get to spend an hour in the gym.

A months membership costs £28 and this includes gym, swimming, softplay, creche, 10% off their swimming lessons etc.

Does you local leisure centre have anything like this?

HeyBaby, I started looking kind of 'normal' when DS1 was 2yrs old and then I got pregnant with DS2. He's now 19m and I'm still about 10lb over my pre-kids wieght, I don't look too bad but am really struggling to shift that budda belly bit. Sad.
I'm not sure you ever get back to how you were, curves are softer etc but you can still look great can't you - she says hoping beyond hope

So anyone got any ideas about the fat gut problem? Can handle the slightly bigger butt and def. can handle the bigger norks, it's the bit at the front that I can fold into my knickers that bothers me......

tyedye · 08/05/2006 11:16

I never got my old body back, now i just have an"old"body,my thighs are really fat,but its ok,my stomach covers them!Grin

HeyBaby · 09/05/2006 21:36

Hmmm might try Davina's? Might give me some ideas of exercises to do. I must admit that I am a bit lacking in discipline when it comes to "home on your own" exercises, especially when all I feel like doing is sleeping in my spare time! I am still breastfeeding but only once a day in the mornings, but am somewhat heartened to hear that I might lose some weight once I have stopped (as all other stories I have heard are of people losing weight FROM bf'ing - something which didn't happen to me Sad).

As for the healthclub - usually this would be the preferred option particularly as I like aerobics classes (with taskmaster at the front and music to motivate me!) however our closest club is ridiculously expensive - £95 per month and £13 per month for "baby membership" plus creche charges on top of that!

But from the sounds of it, maybe I will start completely panicking after the 9 month stage!!! Although maybe I should start panicking now as it is already past the 7 month stage??? Sad But Chapsmum has given me some (albeit maybe false) hope regarding the miraculous change between 7 months and 9 months ..... Fingers crossed ...
