My DS2 has been prescribed phenergan for travel sickness as nothing else works - well it probably would work but he gags and chokes himself if he has to take tablets or chewy ones. Anyway i just wondered if anyone had used, if it's any good for travel sickness and i know it makes them sleepy, does this last for the whole day?

Hmm i have used this, i was prescribed this at the beginning of my pg with dd because i was so so sick & ill, I hated every minute of it, it just made me sleep sleep & more sleep & did not make me feel any better, but thats my experience.

I think children differ vastly in their response.
My dd1 was prescribed Phenergan as a sedative for a year and it worked perfectly - made her sleep soundly and restfully, as well as stopping her from getting travel sick the next day, without any hangover effect or sleepiness.
I've not tried it as something against travel sickness with my other children (who don't get travel sick) but it had zero sedative effect on one of them when I tried it for sedation.

We went to my mums at Easter, which is a four hour drive and he was sick 8 times, three times before we even reached the Forth Road Bridge, so i''m really hoping this works, but just a bit worried about the sleepy side of it

gave this to DD on a very long flight in an effort to stave off sickness and make her have a little nap - it sent her completely bonkers! It was as if she was literally climbing the walls, I did wonder if it made her hallucinate! I think this is quite an extreme reaction though -the pharmacist had assured me it would work wonders! At other times I have use joy-rides and these seem a lot better, but they knock DS out completely for about an hour in the car, and he does sometimes wake up a bit disorientated as he's not a child who usually sleeps in the car!

This and puriton can have the opposite effect and send them bonkers as puriton did on our last plane journey!!!

My mum's a pharmacist and she went up the wall when I mentioned that a mate had suggested we give DS Phenergan. She reckons it can lead to serious respiratory problems, so could be dangerous. I know lots of people use it, but she was mighty insistent.

Oh, don't tell me things like that! He goes a bit bonkers with certain things anyway! We will find out tomorrow as we are off on our journey. We have tried things like joyrides but he made himself sick with them! The doc has said just to give him a 5ml spoonful. I was reading the leaflet, and was quite shocked at the doses they recommend. For a2-5 year old, it says 3-4 5ml spoonfuls as a single night time dose. My friend was joking ( i hope) and saying she would borrow it for her 2year old, who wakens every single day at 4am.
