Has anyone else had this weird virus?

Looking for some comfort and solidarity! Over half term we went away for a city break and it was distrastrous. DD (12) went down with something ghastly: high fever, headache, backache, heavy cold symptoms, no appetite and she was really unwell for nearly 2 weeks. DH followed suit with a similar version although no significant fever but the headaches lasted for a couple of weeks and he's still coughing. I had a version, feeling fluey and shivery with backache, a cold and a cough. DS (15) got away with just the cough for a week or so.

I feel I recovered, although the cough lingered. But in the last few days, the shivery, fluey feeling has returned...sore skin, a bit achey. Had 2 days of bad headache, and felt boiling hot at night, but not too bad during the central part of the day. I'm sleeping ok now, no headache but can't shake the fluey feeling in the mornings and the evening.

Any one else with something similar? Any light at the end of the tunnel?

I think we have this too, well, mainly me! Dc all a bit "wabbit" as my Gran would have said but all awa to school ok. I've had headache, backache, snotty nose, sore face (thinking sinusitis) and feeling dizzy and weak. Until just now I put it down to my neuro illness, I get treatment every 4 weeks and it gets worse just before, (going on Thursday). But now I think these are other symptoms, esp as my temp is up.

But if I have an infection I can't get my IVIg treatment .... - aargh what do I have?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/03/2013 10:04

New and exciting symptom for this morning is a kind of stinging feeling in my calf.

It doesn't look red or feel hot, or itchy or anything so I'm just going to subscribe it to The Virus and hope it goes away.

narmada · 20/03/2013 11:49

"kind of stinging feeling in my calf..."

Is it possible you have shingles about to emerge on your leg? Have you had chickenpox?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/03/2013 13:34

I have had chickenpox.

That's a thought, although there is nothing to see at the moment.

Rosebag · 20/03/2013 16:28

I wondered about shingles at one point...I had an attack about 20 years ago. The rash didn't appear for ages....in fact almost as I started feeling better! I had a better day yesterday and am sleeping much better, but today I'm back to being shivery and weird, although it tends to wear off as the day progresses. My cough is particularly troublesome today as well. Doesn't help that the weather is shite. Matches my mood....

I've got something very similar-sore throat, swollen glands, aches and shivery. I also have the added bonus of an awful tummy. I "feel" hungry but after eating, feel nauseous and have stomach pains.

I'm very fed up, this is my third week of it and dd started with very similar symptoms yesterday.

LadyMaryQuiteContrary · 20/03/2013 21:26

Ds has something. Sad Sore throat, feels like crap, coughing. I've just finished a course of mega steroids after catching something which set my MS off. It had been in remission for 2 and a half years. There's something nasty going around. Sad

Woofers · 20/03/2013 21:28

We are calling it the 100 day cough in my workplace.

Antibiotics won't treat a virus.

Rest. Fluids. And regular paracetamol - with a decongestant if your snotty, and able to take it.

LadyMaryQuiteContrary · 20/03/2013 21:30

It's a definite virus. I'm surprised there's no media interest, it's nasty! Ds breaks up next week and has already been off for two. I can't see him going to school tomorrow.

narmada · 20/03/2013 21:33

woofers you know that the colloquial name for whooping cough is the 100 day cough don't you? And that adults are more prone as lower/ no immunity, and that adults dont typically "whoop" with it....

scarlettsmummy2 · 20/03/2013 22:12

Have it at the moment, feel totally floored, terrible this morning and going downhill again!

LadyMaryQuiteContrary · 20/03/2013 22:28
Sad
QuickLookBusy · 20/03/2013 22:33

The thing I find most frustrating, as you've all described, is that you can feel really well for a bit, then it all comes back.

Today I got up thinking I was totally better, I cleaned the house and took the dog for a walk. By lunch time I was totally floored again. I have cooked tea but have some very little else.

spottyblanket · 20/03/2013 23:11

Sad me too. Repeatedly coming down with a full-on cold, aches & total tiredness, getting better, then starting all over again.

Pneumovirus, like the name, better than I've-got-a-cold-again.

Rosebag · 22/03/2013 08:48

Still feeling shite. Be nice to me, someone?

Hello Rose, will some virtual Brew and Biscuits do?

I'm full of cold again today, WTF is going on??

The leg thing appears to have gone away, which is good, and my glands are definitely on the way down but I am sooooo fed up with this now.

Rosebag · 22/03/2013 09:37

Much appreciated alibaba. I still seem to need to take paracetamol morning and evening, when the shivery, achey feeling comes back. I'm almost normal during the middle of the day...it's so miserable when you realise it's probably the drugs keeping you going. At least I didn't have a coughing spasm when I was teaching last night, and I am sleeping better. The worst of the headache is gone too, but when I wake up in the morning, even though I don't have an obvious temperature, my arms and legs are on fire!! Total weirdness.

LadyMaryQuiteContrary · 22/03/2013 10:29

Ds is still coughing. Sad We're so tired of this now. I was ill for 10 days, it set my usual sleepy MS off so I've been really, really ill. I'm starting to feel better now ds has this. I could cry. Sad

Rosebag · 22/03/2013 15:00

LadyMary :-(

Finally dragged myself to the doctor with this intractable cough. So bad, every rib and muscle aches. Seems I have "sounds at the base of my lungs"...so on antibiotics now....how is everyone else?

OP posts:
LadyMaryQuiteContrary · 25/03/2013 12:46

I've dragged ds off to the GP, there's nothing they can do. Sad
