Chronic debilitating nausea

Hi all

I have awful nausea and heartburn, I would say 20 days out of every month. I constantly feel like I will be sick. I never actually get sick (touch wood), unless I have something like food posioning but that's different. I also do lots of little burps all the time and have acid reflux and pain in my upper left abdomen a LOT.

I went to see a gastroenterologist who did a stool sample and blood tests and told me it's stress-related upper GI tract IBS.

I am doing stress management CBT and I have taken gluten and lactose out of my diet. Those things are helping a bit but I am still nauseous so much of the time and it's really getting me down.

Just wondering if anyone else has this, do you have a diagnosis and what do you find helps?

TIA xx

Hi, this sounds like it could be gall stones. Normally if it's gallstones you have pain on the upper right (where the gallbladder is) but my pain was always upper left...in my pancreas. I think you should go back to the docs and ask for a scan. Do you notice the pain is worse after eating fatty foods? Cream was a killer for me.

I haven't really noticed the fatty food thing but I will keep an eye out for it. What is the treatment for gallstones?

I would return to the GP and ask for re-referral back to the specialist again. Perhaps you need an endoscopy.

Did the gastroenterologist prescribe you omeprazole or similar?

Hey, unfortunately the only treatment is gallbladder removal. I had an attack (severe pain which i thought was trapped wind) which lasted on and off all weekend. Went to the hospital and got a scan (because i went to A&E the pain was that bad and NOTHING relieved it...including the tramadol/cocodamol they gave me). They scanned and found tiny, gravelly stones in my gall bladder and told me to stick to a no fat/low fat diet. I did, for a while and then gradually went back to eating normally. After that I had 6 months of nothing and then on Christmas eve the year before last I had an HORRIFIC attack (after scoffing some chocolate log and double cream!) where i was throwing up and passing out on the bathroom floor from the pain. They took me into hospital and then put me on a waiting list for a gall bladder removal. I had it last year (day surgery) and have been fine ever since.
