Charge for copy of blood test results?

Just wondered if anyone else gets charged by their surgery for a printed copy of their blood test results?

I've never asked for a copy before but wanted to see what ranges my results were in compared to "normal" ranges, and was told it would cost £1.

It's not a problem and I paid it but just wondered if it was normal, and what the average was to pay?

I just thought they'd print it out and hand it over Blush

I think I'd be tempted to ask them to read them out as I wrote them down then!

yes, normal

yes, strange country huh?!? Shock

I am even more confused by the fact that we don't get copies of all our medical test results, reports, diagnoses, recommendations. You go for a consultation, they give you the result verbally. If it's ever so slightly more complex than the usual, try and remember the name of your illness + take in all that's been said. I got into the habit of asking my GP to at least write down the name of the illness.

Of course, you can request copies of all the above, but it can take up to 21 days Shock.

In other countries, GP surgeries are covered in posters about patients' rights, in the UK I only see posters about the rights of NHS staff, nothing else ...

In Germany you get the free on demand.

It doesn't cost £1 to print a couple of pages. Shock Fine, if they charge a reasonable fee for printing but otherwise, it's ridiculous. I get mine printed off at reception for free.

I just got told it will be£5 for a test result. My old surgery never charged for this. I think I will have to move back to my old surgery. Having ivf means I need to have a lot of blood tests and frankly I am appalled that this surgery thinks £5 is reasonable when I’m having to pay £15k plus for treatment that I should really be getting from the Nhs. I acknowledge that the Nhs is under pressure but charging)5 for a 1p piece of paper and maybe 2p for the ink is unreasonable. It’s not the receptionist’s fault but I just had a big shout at her.

Register for online access to your records, every GP surgery in England has to offer this as part of their contract. You can then see all your results together, it’s great comparing with last results (I could see my anaemia resolving)
