my ds has had what feels like every bug and virus going since december (when he was six months old... now nearly one) suffers terribly with chest infections and has a rottten time with every tooth that comes through. We are currently on his fourth batch of anti biotics since christmas and i am desperate to try and find an alternative or at least a complementary way of dealing with all his illnesses. have heard alot of people say they really benefited from homeopathic meds for them selves but i dont know of any children.... would appreciate a bit of advice.

I take my ds to a homeopath, she has helped with his asthma and his general health .I would recommend it,it certainly does no harm.

I took my dd to homeopath when she was 4 or 5 for a v persistant sore throat she had had on and off for months if not longer. It completetly worked. She had had antibiotics etc previously which sometimes helped short term but never long term. Would definitely recommend it.

My experience of homeopaths for myself and the kids has been very positive.

jolly, ds had exactly the same problems as your ds, and at the same age too. Although i didn't take him to the honmeopath then, (didn't know it existed), he continued to have recurrent ear/chest infections after his MMR until at 5yo he missed 4 months of school from constant illness. he had lost so much weight and looked so gaunt, and was suffering from sleep apnea (sp?). i was really worried. the doctors weren't doing anything for him and i was studying homeopathy at the time, so i took him to see my tutor. she spent 1.5 hours assessing his condition and then prescribed a remedy (unfortunately can't remember what it was). from that moment he started to get well adn he has not suffered from a single ear/chest infection since (now nearly 15), although he does get heavy colds.

the only after effect of his babyhood illness was hypoplastic teeth at the age of 6, because of the trauma when he was a baby.

i firmly believe in the power of homepoathy, (although it goes against my usual scientific/empirical beliefs, i would not hesitate in advising a consultation, good lcuk

Katyrocks, it went against my usual cynicism too, for both myself and my dd. But the weird thing with dd was that she didn't even know that she had taken the remedy and i didn't tell my mum. The next day she seemed so much better and even my mum commented that she seemed like a different child.

Both of mine have seen homeopaths since birth Smile They seem to thrive on it, and they've really not needed allopathic medicine.

busywizzy · 07/05/2006 20:29

I'm thinking of taking DD (aged 8) to a homeopath as she suffers from terrible tummy cramps and the doctors have been able to find nothing wrong with her and we can't find anything in her diet that's causing it to happen.

Can anyone recommend how I find a reputable person.

Go to the website for the British Homoepathic Association \link{http://www.trusthomeopathy.org/trust/tru_gett.html\here}. It will tell you how to get treatment and has links to lists of all homeopathic practitioners registered with the Faculty of Homeopathy. The Faculty of Homeopathy regulates the teaching and practice of homeopathy by phamacists, doctors, dentists, vets, nurses, midwives and other medically qualified healthcare professionals.

There is also the Society of Homeopaths \link{http://www.homeopathy-soh.org\Society} where you can search for a homeopath by postcode. Registered members of the Society are required to complete a recognised training course but are not necessarily medically qualified.

Oh, and yes we use homeopathy for ourselves and the children all the time. sometimes it helps more than others but overall our experience has been extremely positive.

busywizzy · 08/05/2006 13:56

Thanks Sugarmag, I'll check this out now.

both myself and my DSs have being seeing a homeopath for over a year and its really helped - it helps for physical and emotional problems/concerns. It can be expensive though - I saw a student in her final year at massively reduced rates and her tutor oversaw everything. Now she's qualified I still see her and have slightly lower rates than new clients. I did also find a homeopath NHS GP but am out of her catchement area by a few streets which is very frsutrating!! It's worth checking out in your area what's on offer. Hope thath helps.
