Sad I hope it is just the flu (meant in a nice way). You need to tell them about your past kidney problems though as it could do with checking.

Bunbaker · 09/03/2013 18:06

Good luck. I hope you get the right medical care and I hope you feel better soon.

Badvoc · 09/03/2013 18:11

Thank you.

Any news?

Badvoc · 09/03/2013 19:18

They offered to come out...after midnight!
I am sort of hoping to be asleep by then...
So I will go in tomorrow morning unless I get worse.
Thanks for asking.
I think it's flu.
Which means at least another 48 hours feeling like this :(

Sad Stay in bed, it's the only way. Make sure you keep drinking though. I hope you're feeling better quickly.

I have this. Massive temp, headache, sore throat. Night sweats. Feel like I've been hit by a freight train. And my DH is away for work. I'm double dropping nurofen and Paracetemol to keep fever down. How long does it last?

Badvoc · 09/03/2013 19:33

It's the kidney pain that's worrying me tbh.
I stared with symptoms early hourse Thursday morning - my dh was away with work too!
If the NHS website is correct it's a week for flu with associated weakness for up to 2 weeks afterwards.
I am going to avoid nurofen for now due to the kidney issues.
Hope you feel better soon cheese.

....we have had to cancel my first ever Mother's Day meal out :(
Feeling very sorry for myself which is deeply pathetic considering what some are going through!

Poor you Badvoc, kidney pain v worrying. Feel better soon.
I've called my inlaws in for tomorrow, I just want to lay in bed.

Badvoc · 09/03/2013 19:35

The man came to measure up for our new windows earlier...he seemed quite concerned about me! :)
He kept popping into the lounge to ask me if I was alright "because you look awful"
Cheers.

I spent most of yesterday on the sofa.
Most of today in bed and no doubt tomorrow will be the same.
Sigh.
I am very very bad at being ill.

NHS website says a week, but probably only bad for 48/72 hours.
I feel dreadful.
My sympathies to all x

Just to point out nurofen is only bad for kidneys if you are dehydrated. The reduced blood volume and the effect of the NSAIDs combine to mean your kidneys don't get enough blood going to them. However they will have absolutely no ill effects if you are not dehydrated and fluid depleted, so most healthy people can take them fine with no ill effects. But in your case badvoc I'd avoid whilst you're getting diarrhoea.

PetiteRaleuse · 09/03/2013 19:47

i had three full days in bed with flu, then three more days feeling rubbish but able to cope with the children. Seventh day was fine.

Badvoc · 09/03/2013 19:50

Ugh.
I feel like such a wuss.
Thank god dh is here and not away!
Thanks drranj.
Will take some more paracetamol before bed.
The nurofen has helped the pain actually.
Feel very wobbly and shaky and sweaty.
Keep having to re type stuff...fingers nit working!

Horrid.

Thanks petite for giving an idea of its time course. I have this godforsaken thing too and have got an exam Wednesday. I'm on day 3 now, took to my bed last night, so hopefully should be ok to at least look after dd tomorrow when dp abandons me and goes back to work!

PetiteRaleuse · 09/03/2013 20:38

I'm abroad and we're having a flu epidemic here toi, but I doubt it's the same strain. Would just like to add that my lower back, so kidney arra, and my throat were the modt painful parts, followed by my neck.

Badvoc · 09/03/2013 20:40

Hmmm...sounds like what I have petite.
My kidney area is very very sore.
I had the flu vax back in nov!!
Must be a different strain...

OP posts:
PetiteRaleuse · 09/03/2013 20:50

If it is the same thing then 1g of paracetamol every six hours got me through it. I can't take nurofen due to previous reaction to anti inflammatories.

Bunbaker · 09/03/2013 22:48

"My kidney area is very very sore."

You shouldn't have refused the home visit. Kidney infections are serious

Badvoc · 10/03/2013 07:12

Not so bad this morning bunbaker.
I promised will go in if it gets worse.
Both dc coughing again too :(
