This has been going on for four weeks now and getting worse.

Tiredness, shaking (full body) double/blurred vision, headaches, feeling like you are going to blackout.

He says it makes him feel so strange when it happens, he hates it. he has had 4 of these episodes this afternoon and its now exhausted and just wants to sleep.

Took him to Drs who ran an ECG, tested urine and blood sugars all normal results.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Could it be severe panic attacks?
Suggest he tries breathing on a count of 5 in and 7 out but it does need checking if it keeps happening.
Breathing in/out of a brown paper bag can help and so can making a fist tightly until you can feel pulse in fingers then concentrate hard on the pulse while doing the controlled breathing.
When I first had panic attacks I thought I was dying-heart pounding, whole body trembling and feeling as if there was a heavy weight on top of my head!

almostanotherday · 08/03/2013 19:33

His breathing does not change, he could be just sitting, lying down or standing up and feels like everything goes almost black so he has to sit down or hold on to something then he gets the double/blurred vision followed by the shakes and feeling sick. Then it's all over in about 5 mins and he just feels really tired. But the 5 minute episodes are getting more frequent now. Hmm

I second the possibility of panic attacks. I've had these symptoms without it effecting my breathing. It may not be, but worth talking to him about. I've had a treatment called EMDR which is amazing, if it is panic.

narmada · 08/03/2013 21:52

I think he should go back if it doesn't get better. I can't help think that panic attacks should be a diagnosis of exclusion (is that the right term - where you rule other things out first?)

I would want things like MS, migraines or something neurological ruled out TBH. Probably very unlikely but nevertheless...

idiot55 · 08/03/2013 21:52

he may have a problem with convergence insufficiency which can give episodes of double vision/ blurred vison and casue nausea etc.

definlty push for further help, ? optician

Twosugarsplease · 08/03/2013 22:38

I agree with panic attacks, though being a mum of my 16 yo ds I would take him to a&e of it happens again.
If it sounds a bit drastic I'm sorry, but I did, I was scared, as panic attacks too, my ds's were young at the time and I stayed in overnight to finally get a clean bill of health, then just my panic attacks to get under control.
Are exams or anything else possibly bothering him at the moment ?
( I ask this in the case of anxiety )
Really hope he gets better soon x

LadyMedea · 08/03/2013 23:32

Go back to doctor and ask for a referral - these are worrying symptoms and need to be investigated. In the meantime also see an optician as they can look in places GPs can't.

CareFactor · 09/03/2013 11:33

I would go back to the GP and ask for a neuro referral personally. The blurred/double vision and headaches need to be investigated. I hope it's nothing serious but I would want him to be properly looked at.

tabbycat15 · 09/03/2013 14:00

Could it be a form of epilepsy? I don't want to scare you but it could maybe be a brain tumour. I don't think it's panic attacks. I have suffered with them but it's never affected my vision or made me black out. He needs to be seen urgently as this has been going on for a while. I hope you find out what's causing it.

Gruntfuttocks · 09/03/2013 14:04

Go back to the GP and push for a referral. They have done the tests that are available to them at the surgery, but there are many more that could and should be done. This doesn't sound right at all.

almostanotherday · 09/03/2013 16:59

Thank you all for suggestions, he has been fine today.

Will keep taking him Dr until I get an answer.

I would second epilepsy especially as he is tired after an episode, that typical of epilepsy. It can start in your teenage years - being triggered by hormone chnages Tabby is right though if it is epilepsy they would have to rule out a brain tumour. Remember though brain tumours are really rare. Keep pushing your GP, ask for an EEG.

lyndie · 09/03/2013 18:07

Is it better for eating? Hypoglycaemia? What are the headaches like?

babySophieRose · 10/03/2013 10:48

I had similar episodes in my teens. It was due to blood sugar getting low at some point during the day and also low blood pressure at the same time. When it happened, I had to sit and have a sweet sparkling drink, but not Coke. It was due to not having regular meals, not drinking enough water.

lyndie · 10/03/2013 13:19

Hope things are better, keep a diary and video of one of the episodes if you do need to see a Dr.

almostanotherday · 12/03/2013 08:55

He has a blood fasting test booked in for next week so will know more after that. Thank you everyone for your advice and suggestions. Will update after.

Startail · 12/03/2013 09:10

Was he waiting for March 7 results? I used to get panic attacks as soon as the stress relaxed.

My normally cool as a cucumber oldest school friend stayed the night of getting her degree results. She had a massive panic attack,as far as I know the only one she ever had. Fortunately, DH is used to me and was brilliant.

youfhearted · 12/03/2013 09:18

woudl it be his ears? ? vertigo?
otherwise push for neurologist

youfhearted · 12/03/2013 09:18

metabolic blood tests?

frostyfingers · 12/03/2013 11:30

Record every episode - time, symptoms and duration - and take them with you when you go back. Possibly try Rescue Remedy in the meantime...?

Slavetothechild · 13/03/2013 09:30

No idea but having had a sick teenager I know how worrying it is. So big hugs and I'm thinking of you both xx

almostanotherday · 25/03/2013 17:20

Update-

blood fasting test results came back as normal so back to Drs on wed for next suggestions of tests Hmm

OneWaySystemBlues · 25/03/2013 23:46

I don't have any medical knowledge, but can you possibly film him next time he has an episode? I guess the ECG etc means they don't think it's his heart, but if it's epilepsy that wouldn't show up on an ECG, he'd need a referral to a neurologist, which is what I think I would want. Having some film of him during an attack would be useful for diagnostic purposes and for perhaps getting the GP to refer him on.

sashh · 26/03/2013 03:55

Sounds like it could be migraine.

almostanotherday · 26/03/2013 09:44

It's all over too quick to be a migraine the episodes only last 5mins max and he is totally exhausted by the time it's over Hmm
