Low iron stores

Have just been told I have low iron stores after a blood test. Quite glad in a strange way as I' ve been feeling so tired and thought I was just being lazy.
I've to take iron tablets for next two months then get tested again
Does anyone else have experience of this? What else can I do to help as well as taking tablets ? This is second time in 9 months this has happened so would really like to understand what's causing it.

I have low ferriten too. I'm currently taking spatone sachets x2 daily as you are supposed to absorb iron more quickly in a solution form. On week two and feeling better already!

Take Floradix-natural liquid iron supplement that IME works a lot better and faster than the tablets.

Are you vegetarian? I am and hadn't realised that it's impossible for non-meat iron to get into your system without vitamin C. Meat works differently but I would still recommend drinking orange juice with your meals. Also, if you have been working on the theory that spinach/green veg is high in iron it isn't as high as things like beans, chickpeas, sesame seeds, dried apricots etc.

Also, I don't know how it was explained to you but I was told iron stores are like bank accounts-you have the current and the savings account. So if you got your 'current' back up but hadn't saved any that would be by it has gone down so quickly. I was recommended that once a year I take a month of iron pills just to help keep on top of it.

Good luck, I never enjoyed the tired anaemia feeling so hope it goes soon.

I'm not vegetarian so it's not linked to that.
The annoying thing is that I only got to speak to the receptionist and she was obviously just reading out the doctor's notes. I'm happy that the iron tablets will help but this is the second time in about nine months I've had to take them so I'd really like to understand what's causing it.

They don't always know-after a lot of research they don't think mine is related to being vegetarian but I apparently have 'pencil shaped' cells of different sizes. They can't find a reason for it but it seems to have improved lately. Ask to see your doctor and see what is advised-I got referred to a consultant after a while of it not improving.
