Tingly hand/arm (right) pins and needles

For about a week I have had a tingly hand and arm like pins and needles, it is my right arm.

Is this likely to be anything? It has increased over the last week which is why I am now wondering.

If anybody has any knowledge or info on this it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Are you pregnant? I had tingly arm and hand when I was pregnant as ds was lying on a nerve.

I would get proper medical advice tbh.

PrincessOfChina · 08/03/2013 13:16

I get this and have a nerve which is trapped in my neck. It can be painful and hard to do anything when it flares up.

Could also be a carpal tunnel thing I think?

LonelyLinda · 08/03/2013 13:26

Definitely not pregnant.

I didn't know whether to get an urgent appt today or leave it til monday. It is getting further up my arm, that is why I suddenly wondered.

Call now. Ask for a telephone consultation as you are very worried.

LonelyLinda · 08/03/2013 13:56

I've got an urgent appointment. Better to be safe than sorry, I doubt it is carpal tunnel because I used to be a typist with no problems and now I rarely type.

I am worried with it getting worse and my mind is thinking what ifs.

Appt at 4pm, thanks for your concern/advice, i'll let you know how I get on.

Thank you.

Do you sit at a desk using a keyboard a lot? I get the same thing, and it's due to RSI. You can help it by getting an ergonomic mouse, and changing your posture.

LonelyLinda · 08/03/2013 16:33

No I dont use a keyboard really at all.

Dr prescribed antidepressants?!?!?!?!? to stop the tingling! He couldnt find anything wrong when examining me.

Thanks all for your advice.

Get a second opioin.

If you take antids you have to come off them slowly so you could be on them for six months.

I would not take the anti depressants, but wait and see if the tingling progresses or persists, and if it does, get another appointment with a different doctor, and ask for blood tests. Sometimes a vitamin B deficiency can cause tingling, so that should be ruled out. It's true that anxiety can also cause tingling, so you need to convince the doctor that you aren't stressed or anxious and that the tingling is very unusual for you. Then take it from there. Most importantly, do not panic. There are lots of reasons to suffer these sort of symptoms, but it does sound as if your doctor has kind of fobbed you off.

LonelyLinda · 09/03/2013 16:24

Thank you for your messages, i'm definitely not going to take the antidepressants for a tingly arm. It has been quite a bit better, I do think that I kind of panicked on friday with it getting worse but it has gone off quite a lot now.

I had lots of blood tests in Jan, which were all fine, so B12 was checked then.

I'll see how it is in a week or so, i'm just relieved it wasn't potentially something serious.

I have had this for over 3 years. It is mainly in my left arm and hand but has been known to occur in random patches on my back as well as in my feet and legs. It comes and goes and varies in intensity. I've had MRI's, X-Rays, blood tests and some sort of nerve test which I can't remember the name of! The neurology consultant finally gave up last year and my official diagnosis is "it's just one of those things and you'll probably have it for a long time". It's annoying to not know what it is but at least it's nothing serious Grin

Was it amitriptyline by any chance? That is used for pain and other similar symptoms.
