Dd's sore vulva again!

I have done this before but I don't remember getting the response I was hoping for then so I am shamelessly starting a new thread on the same subject - apologies.

Dd has an occasional sore vulva whcih clears up well with Sudocrem but I really can't undeerstand why she keeps getting it or whether I should be concerned. Today it was so sore she couldn't even wash herself "down there" and I noticed a bit of discharge on her pants and "bits" (hard to say what of) on her vulva when I came to put the Sudocrem on.

Is this caused by her not wiping herself properly when she wees? I know she washes herslef regularly because I do her baths and supervise her cleaning herself. It is OK for now as she is young enough not to be embarrassed but I would love to know how to prevent further attacks.

it could be thrush

chapsmum · 04/05/2006 20:08

if she has a discharge it sounds as if she may have a touch of thrush.
have ou tried canesten?

chapsmum · 04/05/2006 20:08

sorry starlover x posts

starlover · 04/05/2006 20:08

great minds eh? lol

DumbledoresGirl · 04/05/2006 20:10

The discharge is just this time around. And she is not smelly. Also, it only occurs about once every two months and usually goes completely with just one application of Sudocrem. could that still be thrush?

Not itchy either. Just really sore to touch.

how old is she?

if there are bits there she should prob see a doc in case it is thrush (although you can get the creams over the counter)

not wiping properly definitely causes problems down there

does she wear 100% cotton knickers that are loose and not tight fitting?

has she had worms recently - they can cause nasty vaginal irritation

FrannyandZooey · 04/05/2006 20:12

Yes it sounds thrushy to me too. Can be quite sore and a mild case would often clear up with Sudocrem. Does she have any scented products in the bath? They could be to blame. Coloured toilet paper is another culprit IMO.

chapsmum · 04/05/2006 20:13

yip it soulc be thrush and she may need something to clear it as the creams treat the thrush on the labia and external genitials, but it may be in her vagina.
Not sure what the treatment would be for her age, but dr could reccommened.

DumbledoresGirl · 04/05/2006 20:15

Ooh loads to think about. She is 6. No worms and no coloured toilet paper, but she does have bubble bath. Not sure about her knickers Blush they are M&S standard so I think they are 100% cotton. the "bits" may have just been fluff!

So do I take her to the doctors? It seems so trivial a thing to go with, especially as probably tomorrow there will be nothing to see. Is there a definitive test that can be done for thrush?

doctor told me girls don't produce a certain hormone therefore the ph gets abit upset down there. he suggested vinegar in dd's bath and lots of bio yoghurt. but it is probably worth seeing a doctor if it is bothering her.

morningpaper · 04/05/2006 20:18

Take her to the Doctors and get a swab done. It's quick and you will have a definite answer. Have done this with my 3 year old - she is always getting sore bits. Antibiotic cream was needed for one infection.

foxinsocks · 04/05/2006 20:19

would def stop the bubble bath

we noticed a direct correlation with bubble bath and dd's sore bits
