Does anyone know anything about this condition or has anyone had any experience of it.My ds (10) has just been referred for some tests to establish weather he has the condition,I have heard that only obese children get it and whilst he is big for his age and a chunky build he is by no means obese and until recently has been playing sport almost every day.

Philly, the recovery from slipped femoral epiphysis depends a lot on how bad it is. A minor slip is commonly treated with a pin in the hip (a relatively small op)and recovery is very quick, although sports may be banned until the pin is removed. A larger degree of slip may need more complex surgery with a longer recovery period. If a slip is what your GP has suggested to the specialist when writing the referral letter he will be seen and X-rayed pretty quickly.
Does he have an appointment yet?

Thanks yes he haad the X rays today although apparently it may be 5 days before we get the results which rather horrified me in my "everything is alright but frantically back pedalling under the surface" phase! Most of the time I am sure its just a pulled muscle or something but there is that nagging doubt.

Just to say thankyou ,we had the results and they are clear although he still has the pain we are making a gradual return to games to see howthings go.
thanks again
