It's hard! I tried it, for a while, but found in some ways it aggravated my endo so gave up. I also found that stopping everything at once lead to confusion about what actually worked / helped!

For instance, I have a lot of endo around my bowel so suffer with ibs type symptoms, so switching suddenly to very high fibre grains really set the pain off. It is also very tricky to eat out or eat socially which is a pita!

What I ended up doing was follow a reasonably low gi diet, loads of fresh food, reduced caffeine and added sugar. This really helped with energy levels and also gave me a bit more flexibility than the "endo" diet.

It is hard to change, though, especially if you're a carb & sugar addict like me. I would advise to make small changes with a plan to reduce things eventually; this way you reduce the withdrawals and cravings and also write a food diary to see how things affect you (I would do this anyway for a while before you start so you can have something to compare with).

Good luck!

What's the endo diet?

I know mine is better when I reduce my sugar and refined carbohydrate intake.

There is a book called "Endometriosis - A key to Healing Through Nutrition" written by a nutritionist called Dian Shepperson Mills who also has endo. It is like a text book in that there is a huge amount of info re endo and the link between endo / inflammation and certain foods.

It advocates excluding wheat & gluten, sugar (unless naturally occurring, eg in fruit), caffeine, red meat, processed food, some dairy and additives. It does gives scientific reasoning behind the exclusions so it's not "faddy" as such but still on the borders of extreme.

Some ladies do swear by it, but as per my pp I think everyone is different and it certainly worked in a limited way for me, found a lot more success in doing my own thing.

One thing the book is useful for is to really explain endo, how it works and how it can lead to inflammation in the body. May be worth a borrow from the library?
