How long would you think is reasonable

Someone very close to me is currently in hospital waiting to have a major operation.

They were admited to hospital, via A&E emergency, just over 2 1/2 weeks ago. Following tests it was determined that they needed surgery and are now waiting for a bed to become available at another hospital.

Does this sound a reasonable time to wait, considering we don't know how much longer this may take. How would you go about trying to hurry this along as the ward nurses/sister don't seem to offer any help.

Sorry for being vague, thanks for reading.

It depends entirely on the nature of the illness and the nature of the surgery.

There are a limited number of surgeons and operating theatres available - they have to do things in the order of severity. You don't know who else is waiting or what emergencies have come along in the meantime.

You can't hurry things along. Please don't bother people who have no power to change things. Your friend/relative is not being ignored, and they are not being kept hanging around for no reasons.

Sorry didn't mean to sound as though I have been badgering them.

I phoned the ward Weds last week (only time I have phoned) to see if they could just give me some info on what was happening. They would'nt talk to me but passed me over to my relative.

Following a heart attack (reason for A&E) they are now waiting for is a triple heart bypass.
