Hi to you all, I am a lurker who reads threads but very rarely post. However I am really worried about my daughter and wondered if anyone could help. She had been suffering from a cold, chesty cough etc and got worse throughout the night I took her to a&e in the morning and they advised a chest infection with an ear infection as well, whilst we were there the consultant noticed a lump in her groin which has been there for ages and started asking me questions, does she bruise easily etc and then advised me to contact the doctors. I have been and they have advised me to go the hospital and now I'm really worried. The lump is probaly an enlarged gland and has been there for at least a couple of months, its hard and rubbery and doesn't seem to bother her. She hasn't been particulary ill, just the usual which responds to nurofen, no weight loss etc, I don't think its a hernia because its not soft. No easy bruising. The only thing I would say is that she wants me to pick her up all the time. Anybody ever had this?

When my son is ill he gets swollen glands in the groin and so do i when i am very ill and they are painful.

I think the hospital are trying to make sure that she hasnt got anything serious which is why they were probably asking about the bruising ie if any. When do you have to go back?

GarfieldsGirl · 03/05/2006 14:55

My glands get very swollen when i'm not too well, so hoefully its nothing to worry about. The docs probably just want you to take her in to be on the safe side. I know how worrying it is whn your child has to go to hospital when they seem otherwise healthy, but at least if there is a problem, it can be caught quickly, and if not, then great. Hope everythin is ok ith your dd Smile

Hi Jellyfish

I'm going to the hospital tomorrow, the reason I am worried is that the lump has been there a while and it doesn't seem to worry her at all and its got bigger, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Don't know if its the same but my ds has got a lump in his neck that appeared after he had a very bad infection. It is now like a very large pea and is quite hard and doesn't move about. Doesn't hurt if I touch it or anything. Asked gp about it couple of months after and he reckoned it was where the gland had 'calcified' (think that was the word). not a prob at al according to hi and would go eventually but might take years or may be there forever. Hope this helps in some small way. Hope it all goes well for you. Smile

marlardy, ds had this and the doc said it was originally an enlarged gland, due to an infection, but protective tissue had grown around it, as if it were a foreign body IYKWIM, which made the lump permanent but harmless. he still has one in his neck from when he was 2, (he's now 14), they are probably just being thorough, which is good, and then when they've checked everything out you will have peace of mind. good luck

neena28 · 04/05/2006 10:22

katyrocks, glad you've posted that, was about the same as my gp said and after posting before had got me thinking about ds's lump again.

Any news Marlardy? Hope everythings ok?

Thanks for all your comments, I'm off to the hospital this afternoon due another problem she has which is not serious but I'm going to ask the doctor about it. However I have just had a call from the other hospital that saw her over the weekend and they have booked an urgent rapid response tomorrow! Now I know the NHS dosen't work quickly like this and now I'm really scared.

They have to be so cautious nowadays though cos if they missed something they should have noticed all hell would break loose at a later date. Good luck and let us know how it all goes. [[hugs]]

If its any reassurance, my ds2 had a problem weeing a couple fo weekends ago, there was talk on him opeating that day, they had us straight into childrens ward there and then, but fortunately it wasn't as serious as they 1st thought, so he has to go next week instead. As neena says, they do have to be very careful, and are sometimes probably over cautious. Its worrying, but i'd rather them send me to hospital to make certain and it be minor than ignore it and it turn out to be serious. Hope that makes sense, good luck for tomorrw. Smile

Hi The consultant saw us and found three enlarged lymph nodes and an enlarged liver, they did blood tests and phoned last night with one of them, the white cell count is ok which would indicate that it probaly is not a cancer (phew) and are now testing for TB, epstein barrs, etc, so I will have to wait and see. I have to say I was so relieved about white count.
