Unusual periods

Hi all
Wonder if you've experienced this. I'm nearly 40 and have two children (5 and 2.5). I've always had regular periods (28 days or so) and they usually follow the pattern of bit of a heavy feeling prior to the onset, about 3-4 days of heavy bleeding and then tailing off of 2-3 days. Then I'm done. Then it starts again 28 days later.

Lately (last 4-5 cycles) it's been a case of after 23-25 days I start to get the brown blood (like it would be at the END of the cycle) for a few days (this time it came at 23 days)... And then after 5 days, my normal aching starts and my normal flow comes. So in essence I have a flow of some sort for something like 10-12 days...!

Does any of this make any sense? Do I need to go see the gp??

I am 40 and this has been happening to me for about the last 18 months maybe 2 years. Its annoying as hell because although the nrown discharge/very light flow is completely manageable and hardly noticeable I find myself waiting in anticipation for the proper flow to start. I sometimes feel PMT ish for longer than normal. Some months the pre proper flow lasts 4 or 5 days other months 1 or 2, so its hard to judge.

I did mention it to GP who put it down to age but nothing further on menopause or anything.

I have come to realise that actually my periods have evolved and changed throughout my life - through teens, pre and post babies and now.

I dont suppose it would do any harm to see the GP. Probably wise to.

Thank you for your reply! Comforting to here someone else's experience.

I did think it was related to age and changing bodies (post kids etc) but when I get a chance I'll speak to the gp. Thanks.
