DS is at nursery with 2 kids who have just gone down with German Measles. I'm 13 weeks pregnant and we are about to go on a much needed 2 week holiday on Sunday.

Should I do anything? If so, what?!

have you had your immunity checked dh?

coppertop · 02/05/2006 17:35

Have you had a blood test to see if you are immune to rubella?

beckybrastraps · 02/05/2006 17:35

Have you all been immunised? In your last pregnancy they would presumably have checked your immunity to rubella.

desperatehousewife · 02/05/2006 17:35

I had bloods done at my last check a couple of weeks ago - shall i phone hospital to check for results?

Crossed posts!

Harpsichordcarrier · 02/05/2006 17:37

yes, why not ring and check?
in all probability you are immune, but if you have been exposed then I would personally want to find out ASAP
what a worry, sorry to hear it

desperatehousewife · 02/05/2006 17:51

if i was immune in the last two pregnancies will i be for this one too? (or is that a really silly question?!)

OP posts:
Harpsichordcarrier · 02/05/2006 17:53

no it's not a silly question Smile
once you're immune, you're immune I think
but no harm in ringing to check

YeahBut · 02/05/2006 18:47

No, it's not a silly question. Actually, it all depends on how your immune system reacts. I have had the rubella jab 5 times now and actually contracted rubella for real as a teenager and am still not immune to it. It's rare, but not as rare as you would think so this is why they check during each pregnancy. I'd ring and ask, even if it is only for your own peace of mind. At my old GP, women "of childbearing years" were given a blood test to check their immunity to this because they had discovered that lots of women who had assumed that they were immune after being immunised were, in fact, not.

bundle · 02/05/2006 18:49

I don't think it's a silly question either. I remember hearing that immunity from the jab wasn't as long-lived as they thought. do ring for reassurance.

desperatehousewife · 02/05/2006 18:51

thanks - have rung, am waiting to hear back!

beckybrastraps · 02/05/2006 18:51

Ring to check - but don't panic. Could you speak to your community midwfe about it?

beckybrastraps · 02/05/2006 18:52

Fingers crossed for you!

bundle · 03/05/2006 15:58

how did you get on dhw?

desperatehousewife · 03/05/2006 16:07

bloody midwife didn't call back. will call again now.
