Please help to diagnose me

I had what I thought was a cold last week - generally feeling unwell, headache, sore throat, etc. Then, the insides of my lips started to feel really rough, like sandpaper. This then progressed to them being very sore and red along with a very sore tongue. I now have red sores over the roof of my mouth, the insides of my cheek and my tongue and I still feel unwell and tired a lot of the time. It's painfull to eat as the whole of the inside of my mouth is sore. I also have a really husky voice at the moment.
My 11 week old DS has lost his voice in the last few days and has also been generally unwell and now DP has told me that the insides of his lips feel like sandpaper - the way mine started.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be and whether we need to go to the GP or just wait it out?

Thank you

Don't be daft (in the nicest way!). Go to your GP. It sounds like some kind of bacterial infection that they could actually help with.

Ok, I hate going to the GP if I don't need to. I did take DS yesterday and they checked him over but he doesn't have the sores or anything. It was an emergency appointment so I couldn't ask about me.

Could it be hand, foot and mouth?

amatuermummy · 27/02/2013 14:53

I don't have anything on my hands or feet though - I did think about that but could it be just in my mouth?
I've just tried to call the GP, but they are closed for staff training so I will try again later or tomorrow. I would imagine they'll say it's viral, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better so I think I'll go.

I think it's possible to have it and not have the rash on the hands and feet. I think like chicken pox it can vary in severity from person to person.

I didn't know that, I'll try to get an appointment as soon as I can, although there's not much they can do for hand, foot and mouth surely?
Just fed up with being in pain whilst eating and drinking.

No there isn't any treatment I don't think but you should get checked out just incase it's something else and if you think the baby may have it too

Ooh, non-professional, non-visual online diagnosing! Fun!

I think it sounds like oral thrush. www.nhs.uk/conditions/Oral-thrush---adults/Pages/Introduction.aspx particularly as having a cold can knock the bacteria balance of your body out and cause thrush.

Go to a doctor, woman. Whatever it is, it sounds painful.
