CONTACT LENSES -What is the base curve (buying online)

I apparently have dry eyes, 3 times dryer than normal.

I hate wearing contacts, they are so uncomfortable. However, sometimes needs must (sport for example) so I wear Trueye as recommended by specsavers.

But googling to try to buy them cheaper, I discover other makes of lenses also promising to relieve dry eyes.... AT HALF THE PRICE!

Cooper vision proclear for example.

But what is the base curve on my lenses? Mine says 8.5. But other manufacturers make them in 8.7.

Can I wear these?

Ask you optician? Mine says I can buy on line cheaper than they can buy so are happy to do the check up.

Ask for a free sample?

Different designs and materials may fit differently, so you cannot just swop one for another. Its a bit like shoes but rather more critical. There are also different types (and degrees) of dry eyes. Agree with sashh - ask your contact lens practitioner, perhaps they could organise a trial of a less costly lens if clinically suitable. Unlike buying shoes its harder to see what damage is done by a poor fit.
The base curve is the curve of the back surface, so along with the overall size (such as 14.0) is the fitting. Most one day disposables only come one in size. One size does not fit all but is designed to fit many average sized healthy eyes. Different materials have different properties. HTH
