I keep getting thrush all the time, in the last two years I have had over 20 bouts of it. I have tried the creams, pessaries and tablets. For the past 2 months I have bled every day , when I wake on a morning I can feel it gathered in my stomach area and then have a gush of it when I go to the loo. 2 days ago my bits felt really sore and I could hardly sit down, it is also itchy. I have not had sex for months. It feels like something is stuck there. The gp says it is just thrush? Is he right and do I just keep treating it?

Have you been tested for STIs?

GeorgianMumto5 · 25/02/2013 21:21

Oh, you poor thing. :-( I don't know the answer but I don't think your go was very helpful. Even if it is thrush, you need to know why it is recurrent. Can you ask to see another gp?

BelaLug0si · 25/02/2013 21:28

Ok, so bit of a checklist here:

  1. Has the GP done a visual inspection of your vagina and cervix? Have they done a pelvic exam?
  2. What tests have they done? HVS, dipstick urine
  3. Where do you think the blood is coming from - is it vaginal or bladder?
  4. How old are you?
  5. Have you ever been for a cervical screening test (smear test)?
  6. Any history of endometriosis, fibroids, polyps or a IUCD fitted?
  7. Has the candida treatment made any difference?
  8. Any history of eczema, dermatitis?

I haven' t been tested for stds, I've been married for 10 years , I'm sure as I can be that we've both been faithful, he has no symptoms and I've been watching for any signs of scratching!

I've never heard of thrush making anyone bleed for 2 months.

Ask for a referral to see a gynae to eliminate anything else, sounds like your GP is fobbing you off!

wheredoistartmrs · 25/02/2013 21:32

Hes done an inspection said there was a polyp and a smear, every swab I have comes back with thrush.no history of anything, I am 40 no eczema or dermatitis history. The blood is vaginal

So how long has the polyp been there, did the GP say it looks cervical or endometrial?
I agree with Jellykat that you should ask for a gynae referral. You may have candida and something else. The bleeding could be due to the polyp, it may not be. It (or something else) is definitely causing you problems so should be investigated.
I can give you links to the NICE guidelines about vaginal bleeding if that would be useful to arm yourself with.
Please go back to the GP and insist on investigation (gynae/colposcopy).

A friend had something similar recently. She had self-examined and had also been examined by her GP but the problem didn't clear up. She finally went to see another GP who gave her a very thorough examination and found a "lost" tampon which had been there for a very long time. Offending tampon was easily removed and the problem stopped.

Jellykat · 25/02/2013 21:45

I have a cervical polyp - only time it bleeds is when its bashed during sex, which is quite common. (the bleeding, not the sex)

If your bleeding IS due to the polyp it needs to be sorted, it shouldn't be left as 'just one of those things', thats not good enough and not fair on you!

BelaLug0si · 25/02/2013 21:53

Here's a link to the pathway that GPs use to decide what to do with vaginal bleeding.
Please don't be alarmed at the possible differential diagnoses, but please do use it get yourself investigated.

please go the GP and get a referal to Gynea or go to your local womens clinic if you have one (Sorry I am not in the UK)

YOu need proper investigation and care.

You poor thing

If you are not up to insisting that the GP refers you, take a friend to be your advocate or DH or your Mum or me if I was in the UK.

BelaLug0si · 26/02/2013 20:22

Please do go back, see a different GP if possible and get a gynae referral. An alternative is to go to a GU clinic as (a) some of them are also Colposcopists (b) they may be able to refer you as well.
