Hi

Ive been having lower abdominal pain for a few months now, been for a ultrasound scan which didnt really pick anything up the only thing it picked up was that my left kidney was mid line ( which my doctor said was a bit of a red herring as the pain is on my right and apparently the kidneys move around!).

Anyway my problem is when im on my period the pain is alot worse and i suffer from extreme tiredness. Im at the point where i cant function at work. I dont know what to do i can't take time off work every month. Ive never suffered badly with pmt/period pain before only since the pain has started.

Endometriosis may be the root cause of your problems; it is a common cause of cyclical intense period pain. Any pain that is cyclical in nature and gets worse up to and including menses should be checked out properly to see if endo is present.

Ultrasounds scans like the one you've had would not detect endo if it is there. Also there is a lot of ignorance surrounding endometriosis so its probably not been considered.

Has the GP suggested a referral to a gynaecologist; this is what is needed here really. I would be asking for a referral to a gynae and do not take no for an answer. In the meantime I would keep a daily pain and symptom diary as this will give the gynae clues.

You will need to be persistant in order to get answers.

www.endo.org.uk is a good website.

Usually through a keyhole surgery op called a laparoscopy.

so with endometriosis is the pain constantly in the abdomen?

I would recommend you also have blood tests looking for anemia.
