Am going to book appointment this week as I cannot stand to have periods this painful anymore.

I went back on the pill as before when I was on it I never got any pain at all but it's not working this time. Yet again this morning, I couldn't stand up as the pain was that bad and normal painkillers don't do a thing.

Last month I had to get my neighbour to walk the girls to school as standing was unbearable, thats not normal is it ?

Nutcracker,

A lap's not all that scary really - in my experience of such a procedure (I had a similar type of laparoscopic operation) the fear of same was far worse than the reality. I found the pain post op caused by the carbon dioxide gas in the shoulders to be the most difficult bit (but painkillers took the edge off it).

BTW endo is not picked up through blood tests, swabs etc. It is usually only diagnosed through a laparoscopy. If its there then the endo deposits will be lasered out.

It may not cure the problem for good as it can recur but seven years post op now I feel much better for having the surgery done.

Sorry if my post was misleading. I meant they did all the other tests first to rule out infections etc., not to diagnosis endo. The outcome of those tests was negative, hence the lap. I didn't have immediate laser treatment, but I don't know if that was an option back then.

Know what you mean about the shoulder pain Attila. The fact that they don't warn you about it doesn't help!

I was diagnosed with endometriosis about 10 years ago after beng fobbed off many times. In the end I had a laser laparoscopy and then tricycled on the pill so effectively only have a period every three months. This has definately stopped it reoccuring.

i also take mefanamic acid for heavy/painful periods and it is a godsend, i quite literally wouldn't be able to get out of bed without it!

I took mefanemic acid when mine were bad.

Investigations couldnt find endometriosis. I was told that sometimes, in some women, the uterus produces too much of a certain chemical when menstruating which is what causes the pain.

Some months i considered going to A & E because the pain was so bad that i couldnt believe it was "just period pains".

Mefanemic acid was brilliant for mine though.
