Chicken Pox or Molluscum, doctors don't seem to be able to make up their bloody minds?

DD has had chicken pox for four weeks, reoccuring, has seen gp twice who said deffo cp. She did the scab thing etc and all three of her siblings have caught it. One crop of spots became very infected and she needed antibiotics, they went, scarred, and a new lot have arrived, 3 very much like boils, 1 with a large red patch two inches in diameter around it. Took her to emergency dr tonight as this is just wierd and he said she has never had chicken pox and it is molluscum. Looked at molluscum on a few sites looks absolutely nothing like it, these are massive boil like spots and tbh nothing at all like the first chicken pox she got. Am really confused and actually rather worried, help anyone?

Do they have pits around them. Look up eczema herpeticum on google images- if it looks like that then you need to see someone quite urgently - it can be nasty. Lots of general docs won't recognise it though. DS1 had it and it was misdiagnosed as chickenpox until a dermatologist saw it and dxed it immediately (his spread very rapidly). The key with eczema herpeticum is that the blister has a kind of pit around it- although because ds1's got quite infected (very quickly) they were nly really obvious on the blisters on his face.

DS3 has molluscum at the moment. Much smaller than chickenpox spots, and less zitty looking, more likes kin tages.

sorry only really obvious on the blisters on his legs, his face was a big mess.

If it is e herpeticum then the threatment is acyclovir (oral or iv- we had oral) and antibs for the infection (then we wet wrapped for a few months), but the acyclovir is important.

I've just had alook and don't think they are similar, they are more individual spots, on different parts of the body, so currently one under the arm, one in her groin, one on her leg and one on her tummy. Don't think the previous ones would have cleared up either if it was this. Thanks for responding though, I really am concerened, they seem almost to havea black head in the middle and have left very purple scars (not like the cp which left pock scars)

Oh no doesn;t sound like e herpetcium then (they cluster, although ds1's started with a cluster and then rapidly covered his entire body- but not in patches just in a mass iyswim- stopped at his feet but covered the rest).

Are the defininte blisters -not flea bites? (which reminds me must deflea the cat).

DS3's molluscum are not scaring, - although some of the chickenpox remains are purplish- like disappeared zits.

Molloscum start out like a pearly coloured definte spot with a dent in the middle. They aren't itchy but can go horrible and infected as you describe. But this usually happens when they are about to go and can be moths after they first appeared.

They tend to be in crops; ds2's were under his arm, dd's under her chin and neck (these have scarred but she did have xcema too so scratched a lot). If her siblings have had chickenpox, I'd say it was that but a bit long-winded.

months not moths!

Thanks SMBK, it really doesn't sound like molluscum, except, the second lot of spots she got were in a definate crop under her arm, however they went in a week maybe a week and a half after appearing (although have scared) which isn't symptomatic of molluscum is it?. These spots are starting out like definate pimples and are more volcanic in appearence rather than dome like, they are very nasty and are incredibly sensitive to touch. Like you say it could just be long winded cp but four weeks is a long time and every time they clear up a new few appear!
