Anyone tried the tupler technique?

Hi
I've been seeing an nhs physio for 6 months for an abdominal muscle separation. My daughter is nearly 8 months now (she's my 3rd, never had this problem before) and my gap is still 6cm and I look 5 months pregnant! Physio have said my only option is now surgery, not keen!
Has anyone tried the tupler technique as I've heard good things and am desperate not to have surgery as a mum of 3 & training to be a childminder it would be impossible!
I'm a little sceptical as the technique goes against everything the physio did, and can't understand why the nhs would be advising you to do things that are more harmful and how they don't know about this technique?
Any advice appreciated
Thanks

Yes, it worked for me.

Go to a post natal specialist physio as well, as all abdominal muscles are connected up to your pelvic floor. You will probably have to go private. Your NHS physio advice is not suitable for a diastisis, if you still have it after six months of treatment.

Hth.

Thanks for your reply, it's good to hear it did work for someone as I'm always sceptical about websites own claims. Waiting for a message back from the uk provider, really hope it works for me, surgery is my no1 nightmare but can't stand being like this anymore :0(

It's working (gradually) for me.

The combination of exercises and splinting has made a noticeable difference.

I'm getting a bit lax about the exercises now. Need to redouble my efforts.

Definitely worth giving it a go.

I also saw an NHS physio who had me doing 100s etc.

I can feel the strength coming back to my core, which is so great.

I've done years of yoga and had a washboard stomach and great core strength before DCs.

Thanks, same here even after my first 2 I was a 8-10 and had a virtually flat stomach, now I have to wear a 14 just to accommodate my belly!

I carry right out the front, so I've had this since DC1.

Got a lot worse with massive DC2.

DC3 didn't change much, but the Pilates I was doing in between 2 & 3 just made it worse.

It's so demoralising when you still look pregnant months after giving birth.

DD3 is nearly 8 months now. I started just before Christmas.

I now have what I would describe as a normal mummy tummy rather than an empty pregnancy bump I'm always trying and failing to disguise.

Still a way to go, and weight to lose, but happy it's going the right way. :)

If you decide to do it we could start a TT support thread. Be nice to have other people to natter to about this.

I hear you OP, it is so demoralising when you still look pregnant months (or years in my case...DC2 is 2.5yrs!) later.

I have the same kind of issue. I've measured my abdominal seperation and it's only about 1.5 fingers width, which I think is normal? Yet I look about 4 months pregnant, and on a 5'2, size 8 body it is an issue. I'm considering doing the MuTu system. Has anyone heard of that?

Rickers83 · 20/02/2013 11:09

I'm waiting for the uk licenced company to call me back as they are not getting new stock of splints/DVDs untill mid march. But yes if I can get on the programme I think it would be a great idea to start a group Smile

Out of interest what surgery were you being offered for this problem? I thought the only way to fix this was a tummy tuck. I have this with an umbilical hernia too and would love to get it fixed but a tummy tuck is too serious an operation for me to consider. Were you offered something different?

Rickers83 · 21/02/2013 08:37

Yes it is a tummy tuck, they pull the muscles together with what I think is like an internal corset (?) and then pull the skin tight. Very big op, which is why I want to avoid it, not practical with 3 children and when starting a childcare business Confused

@choceyes
I have had a look at the mutu system too, seems the difference is that they don't do the splinting as I've heard some people's gap return after they stopped using it, also they do a programme that helps you lose excess weight too. Have emailed them too so will see what responses I get

Using the splint has made a big difference to me.

I can't comment on how long-lasting the effects will be.

I find the fact of my muscles being physically pulled together is helping.

With 3 children my options for never doing things that might worsen the diastasis (lifting heavy 3 year old, carrying nearly 8 month old around on my hip while I prepare food) is limited.

The splint is at least holding the muscles where they should be, so hopefully they will be working as they should.

I thought MuTu looked good too. I really only went with Tupler because I had seen it recommend on here and had no recommendations of MuTu.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 21/02/2013 09:24

MuTu is amazing. The best money I have ever spent.

Rickers83 · 21/02/2013 11:47

How long have you been doing it, has it improved your diastisis and appearance?
Sorry so many questions, it's just mine is quite large and I'm desperate to find something that's not surgery
